What a fun little flying machine, 1967 7ECA 100hp.

I sold it several years ago but definitely put my mark on her during a few years of ownership. Within a week of buying it, I flew it from my base airport (BIS) to Red Lodge, MT. No NAV, I dead reckoned the entire flight with a compass and sectional chart. I bought a handheld GPS ASAP after that trip. Flew my son into Oshkosh for Air Venture. He loved the trip.
Probably my favorite way to fly it was cross country between my house and Spearfish. I'd glide along a wingspan or two above the deck nearly the whole distance. It's an amazing experience to skim along rising and falling with the contour of the land across a huge prairie. Sometimes I'd come upon a herd of antelope and I'd drop a little lower with the antelope scattering left and right of my course at the sight of the plane. It was true safari.
One day it occurred to me I could get my plane inside an old storage shed by my house if I turned the plane sidewise. So I built a low trailer cart and put it on a wood track leading into the building. Then made some simple ramps so I could taxi the plane onto the cart and then winch it into the building. I got good at taxiing the plane onto the ramps and the arrangement worked well for a little airplane.
I'd take off from the house in which ever direction suited my fancy and needs. If the crop was off I'd use the field. If the crop was on I'd use the runway. If the runway was snowed under, I'd take off on the road. If the wind was right I landed in the yard. What a fun memory!
My friend Leon Basler painted a picture of my plane as shown above. He's an accomplished artist and a Champ fan too. He owns the Champ he soloed in many years ago.
