Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Sorry about a lot of these pictures being sideways if you're using a computer. Most of them were just taken with my iphone. If I view this page on my iphone or ipad the pictures are just fine. But for some reason using internet explorer or google chrome on my work computer the pics are always sideways...

Not a whole lot. We just mounted the horizontal stabilizer, now we have to run the trim cable and mount the elevators. Still waiting on the ailerons and rudder to be balanced before I can mount those. The seats were sent off 2 weeks ago to be recovered and should be done soon. The ASI is getting overhauled and should be back next week. I still need to order the flooring, make a template, cut it out and install it. After all that and a few minor other things it will be ready to get the annual done, weigh it and go fly!

Rob, sorry we missed you at the fly in. I was looking forward to meeting you. Met your dad, however! We had a good time.

Looks fantastic. Looks like you've got an abrasion boot on the horizontal?

Must just be the shadow, there's no abrasion boot yet.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Just got the ASI back from being overhauled. I had them put the range markings inside for an extra $60.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

The ASI looks great! I can't wait to see the whole thing back together. I need to have my ASI overhauled too. It either doesn't work well over 80mph, or my plane is really slow compared to other 170's...

Where did you have it done? Mine shows the same or a similar problem. GPS says at least 10 kts more for ground speed.

Mine seemed to indicate fairly accurate but indicated 15mph while stationary. I had Air Tech in Auburn Washington do the overhaul. I was just going to get it calibrated but they recommended a full overhaul which I'm glad I did. They charged $225 for the overhaul which is about $200 less than I was quoted by a local shop. The range markings on the inside were another $60. Turn around time was just a couple days and shipping took the most time, still only about a week and a half total . Not bad since there was a holiday in there too.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Well I fired up the 170 for the first time in 7 1/2 months, ran it up, and taxied around a little bit. I had to borrow a seat since I'm still waiting on mine to get back. Almost done!
