Congratulations.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B BACK IN THE AIR!!!

How's your satisfaction level?

Would you do it again? Does it feel like a new plane? How was the flight?

It looks great from the pics!

I'm very happy with how the 170 turned out. It doesn't feel like a new plane, just the same old 170 with a new touch, and a bit lighter. I only flew it for 0.4 and 3 landings so I'm still looking forward to putting a lot more time on it, and some trips to utilize all the extra cargo area. Would I do it again? That's a tough one... Don't get me wrong I love how it turned out but it took a lot more time and a lot more money than I had planned for. One of the hardest parts was not flying the whole time. Not to mention spending all your weekends at the hangar for 12 hours a day, and working at the hangar after you just spent all day at your real job. It's easy to get burnt out on it. I would only do it again if I had a second airplane to fly and I wasn't worried about when I would finish the project. I'm still glad I did this though (and that it's over :D ). Well almost.... Still a lot of polishing to do #-o .

Re: Project: Cessna 170B BACK IN THE AIR!!!

Rob,
I feel your pain…
I spent a bunch of time and about three grand through paint putting a Sportsman on my CamberLift wing.
I was happy with the way it performed prior to the work, just figured I needed a project over the Winter.
Personally, I wouldn't do it again. The 'Ol Heap performed just fine the way it came out of the factory.
Your piece looks pretty good though, so atta boy. Now get out there and scratch it up.
A little dog slobber and baby pewk(?) should break it in just fine…
Hope to see you in the Sierra's soon…

About 4 years ago, I replaced the Concorde RG-25 battery in my C150/150TD with an Odyssey SBS-J16. Knocked off exactly 8 pounds, mounting the Odyssey in the existing battery box.
Are you planning to use the battery box, or rip it out & use the Odyssey mounting bracket? That'd save you even more weight. I don't know what the battery box weighs, but I think that bracket only weighs about a pound and a half. About $40 from Spruce.

Hey Rob,
The plane looks great! I would love to see some more photos of the interior. How did the Selkirk side panels turn out? Do you like them?

Re: Project: Cessna 170B BACK IN THE AIR!!!

He didn't like them. he said it was too restrictive not enough room. They stick out quite a bit more than the originals it seems like.

I didn't really like the Selkirk panels. Pain in the ass to fit and make them look good. Plus the rest of the inside is all black Selkirk foam so I thought it wouldn't match well. A bonus of not having those side panels is a little more foot and leg room and a little less weight. I'll be gone for a couple weeks so I can't get any more photos. There's plenty of photos in the 170 group page in my project album.

Fly up to Hampton this morning? Looked like your plane tied down outside. Looks good. Beautiful day for flying.

Not sure where that is so must not have been me! I made it out to a 170 fly in at Columbia though.
