Re: The Big Cessna 180 / 185 Empty Weight Thread

I reported the calculated weight of my airplane earlier, but last week we put it on scales. First time since it was built. It came in at 1921 lb. this was after removing the original engine instrumentation and installing a JPI 930. Also installed the electrical stuff for the amphibs. Hydraulic system still has to go in. Firewall battery too.

I think I have very heavy interior. Probably the best place to look for weight saving.

"YES" "YES" "YES" =D> I WIN =D>
They said go light, so I purchased an early one. Did lots of mods to make it better, and then lighter. It has a heavy interior, front seats can move 20 different ways, back seat looks like a sofa. This I will tackle next year.

1953 stock 180
New basic IFR panel with EI CGR30 engine monitor
O-520 285hp
Three blade MT
Firewall battery
Ti gear legs
26" ABW
Baby Bushwheel
etc etc

Put it on the scales last week....1871 :x

Next year the paint is coming off, the interior is going out. Thinking of installing light weight plastic garden chairs!!!
This has got to be the heaviest 180 on the planet.

Heavy or not Zulu, that must be a hell of an airplane with that set-up.

Re: The Big Cessna 180 / 185 Empty Weight Thread

Just weighed my '65 H model. Heavy old instruments, float kit and engine mount, horton stol, not sure who made the interior, retractable tail handles, 8.50 tires

Old W&B - 1690 / 39.8in (1989)

As weighed W&B - 1835 / 36.77 (yesterday)

The CG was a huge giveaway that the W&B was wrong. Sad she is fatter than I thought but at least I'll be back in the envelope. Takeaway: weigh your airplane and don't trust the previous numbers. Now to get on that diet!

That’s light for a 180H!

Is that weighed or calculated?

Not an easy as some other forums, but no big deal.
Two or three step process vs one step.
Transfer images from your computer to your gallery here,
then paste from the gallery into your post.

That’s awesome. There are early 180 owners that would love to have that EW.

Serial number 97, 1953

520
401 prop
firewall battery
atlee dodge jump seats
extended baggage
10" tailwheel
185 gear legs
6 bolt clevelands
remote oil filter
later model seats
fiberglass cowling
fiberglass interior panels
bas harnesses
bas tailpulls
sportsman
pponk gearbox reinforcements

Weighed at 1701
People always go look at my panel and interior when I tell them the number. Then they ask if the carpet is made of lead. I suspect that most think theirs is much lighter than it really is.

Re: The Big Cessna 180 / 185 Empty Weight Thread

Curious if people are quoting their empty weight & CG including unusable fuel or not?
Mine's about 1650, unusable fuel per book (5 gal) adds 30 pounds.
