Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

Everyone should come to powers! Come on down little John! Oh and bring that cooker for desserts haha :)

This may end up being our only fly in as something came up for the GV fly in :(

Also I am trying to get Robww56 to come up as well so it'll be a true party!

Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

I am in for sure.

My wife and I are out for GV. We will be in Sun River for the Pacific Crest Tri Festival.

Gourmet pancake breakfast and Moon Tree 10k on Saturday AM at Illinois Valley airport. This will benefit the smokejumper museum located on the field. If you haven't been to the pankcake breakfast at the IV airport you will be in for a treat. All organic and huge omelets to boot! I am thinking of flying in Friday night, running Saturday and then coming back to Powers, camping Saturday night and doing breakfast at Lucas on Sunday.

Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

What's wrong with Lucas on the 13th-15th? Little John started a thread for an opener fly-in, while waiting for a reply from Lucas this thread started.
Lucas replied and said we are good to go! Camping, rooms, meals and a jet boat!! Take your pick out of any of the above, they are good with any of it.
I haven't re read all of the posts, but what is wrong with Lucas 13-15?
I'm going to lucas, I've made reservations and hell, the boat is already on the way to pick us up! 8)

Well I figured I'd put a thread out to find out where everyone wanted to go and when since some wanted to start planning...myself included! I let everyone vote and pick...and this is what we came up with! Terry, you're just up the road...the more fly in's the better! Come on down!

ps. I will add that some people that can land on grass strips & rent will be able to go to this one, and possibly not others pvt fields!

Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

I think DCO-65 has it right. I will come go both weekends. Each location is less than 35nm from my house.

Let's fly and camp every weekend!

I guess I will try for both. I like Lucas to much to pass that. I want to hang with my friends from Cali too.
Cheers

I won't be at GV this year, so I will try to make one of these.

Here is some footage showing the powers area for those who have not been there. Great spot, with good fly-out options and locals that like airplanes!

Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

Thanks to my wife and Highroad for organizing a great trip! A HUGE thanks to Highroad's buddy Tom from Powers. I have never met such a generous person. He brought us a porta potty, a bbq, a smoker, chicken halfs, Razr rides and let us use truck.

Can't wait until the June fly-in. Also, there is a pancake breakfast at the IV airport on Saturday the 7th if anyone is interested in breakfast there on Saturday and Sunday at Lucas.

All the best!

Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

So, camping out at Powers, OR., Fri., June 6 - Sun., June 8, the Dutch Oven Dessert Choices are:

Bryan, you ready to start another poll on the 2 favorites.....or cooks choice/?

Apple Pineapple Cake
Bread Pudding
Carrot Cake
Cherry Crisp Cobbler
Chocolate Turtle Cake
Hot Fudge Pudding Cake
Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Maybe we'll have to bring the larger dutch oven to serve the crowd?

Nice! Happy birthday, Sean.

Sure is nice and green there at 6S6 this time of year. Wildflowers should start popping up soon if they haven't already.

Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

I really enjoyed the atmosphere at this event last year. A beautiful area as well! Unfortunately you pick two weekends that don't jive with my revolving work schedule, so it's a no go for me :( . You guys are going to have a great time. I'll keep an eye out for other informal opportunities to get together throughout the season.

...and Dutch Oven desserts, that's just too awesome! Talk about spoiled.

Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

We may be doing a similar thing this Friday at Tokettee.
Much simpler though. Our plan is to eat dinner at home and not screw with cooking (just junk food snacking). I will start a new post if we firm it up. Stand-by.

Re: UPdate: PNW Season Opener -- Powers Fly In 7 June 2014

Heads up, this Mother's Day Weekend, 2014 is the annual Lakeside, OR (9S3) Crawdad Festival on the southern Oregon coast. It is always fun to land at the grass strip (which is always green because it is watered with Lakeside's effluent pressurized irrigation from sewer plant) to the festival a few blocks away. Last year there were 5 planes. :D

Wx sucks and forecast not looking to improve. Not my idea of relaxing under the stars in the mountains. Gunna scrub the mission for Tokettee tomorrow and look for another day to make it up. :-k
