Re: Where did you fly today?

No pictures for this one but flew over to Springs East to work on some short field dirt strip landings. Came back to Meadowlake and chatted with "Centennial" from this site a bit. Just keeping my daily flying streak from 24 Dec going. Gotta love CO weather.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew the pacer from Scappoose over to Woodland and got worked over pretty good by the crosswind. Good practice though. Played around there for about an hour doing wheelies, then had enough of the bumps and headed home. Ready for the east wind to stop though, the Lewis River was acting like big funnel dumping the wind right onto the airstrip

Around the neighborhood to warm the oil so I could change it. Wind was pretty much right down the runway. 27G33kts I had ground speed at touch down of 20 kts 100' to stop. I had 1 take off roll of maybe 50' and I had 40 gallons of gas and 60 pounds of junk in the trunk.

I don't think I'd care to even taxi in crosswinds of 27G33.......

Yep, hotrod I know what you mean. I am waring out my breaks, but there cheap. The wide gear really helps. I only have to taxi 150 yards each way with the 90* XWind then it is directly behind or right into it.

It is so cool to count one one thousand two one thousand and your off. =D>

Rob.... I really need to give you a ride in the "beast". That one thousand one, one thousand two, thing is an every takeoff thing for the 801. The big problem is I won't take the plane out of the hangar any more with winds that strong and me not sitting it while it rolls out. I almost lost it a few years back.

Seeing daylight under one of the main gear tires while I was pulling it out using the tow bar scared the shit out of me and diving for the strut on that side to add my weight was a 10 on any olympic score card. =D>

I am pretty prejudice of fat people but I was never so happy to see a tub-a-lard ramp rat come around the corner of the row of Tee hangars while I was screaming that morning for help. [-o< [-o< :?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Took advantage of the -05°F temp on Thursday morning to make a flight around the area. Unfortunately, the preheat took longer than the flight. Looking forward to next week.

Re: Where did you fly today?

On Saturday Bumper and I launched our Huskies and first headed a few miles east of Minden to do some touch and go's on a dirt strip off of Sunrise Pass Road. From there we headed south for a few photos and then landed at Alpine County, which was snow-free. A northbound flight took us along Foothill Road past Genoa and then back to a nice landing on Runway 12. Had to wait until 2:30 pm for the fog to clear off. Sure was nice to fly after losing a week or so with the annual inspection (note: shiny tires!).

Re: Where did you fly today?

It was -2 in eastern Ohio this morning, but we managed to round up 5 hardy souls and did some ski flying. My cub scoops air in the door-window, and I still had a blast. Photos and videos may follow when we get them exchanged.

Flew up to visit my friend that owns a Super Cub. Jumped in the back seat and flew over to Bijou Bottom to introduce him and get him permission to use the private strip. Was a beautiful Colorado day of flying.

9th straight day of 300ft ceilings and 1 mile of vis here in the East Bay area. This is the longest I can remember without seeing the sun around here. #-o

Re: Where did you fly today?

I "had" to fly out of the mountains, across the desert, back into the mountains, to look at an upcoming crane job setting a wind turbine tower. About 70 miles each way. That was the excuse anyway! There was a cloud deck over the desert, going I flew under it at about 500 agl, being out of the INEL (nuke research site) airspace restrictions, coming back 8500 VFR on top. Glass air the whole way.
First shot shows how I'm only plowing half the length of my 400' runway, 200' is plenty when it's this cold (density altitude improvement), but going wider in case I get out of wack on landing as braking is pretty much nonexistant with the smooth tread Airstreaks. Note the single center track from the tailwheel touching down first.
