Needed to fly to Madras Oregon to get oil and filters for the Maule. I also needed to check my vacation home. All was good. Pictures with iPhone.
Sunny when I left Troutdale. The clouds were piled up on the Cascades so I decided to go VFR on top. I figured I could shoot an approach into Madras they had 3800 BKN, that is easy.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew up to Front Range, CO (KFTG) to pick up my friend Clint. Let him fly the Skywagon up to Scottsbluff, NE where he keeps his J-3 Cub. We took his cub up and spent about an hour flying in and out of the bluffs then traded some touch and goes. Was pretty cool to get to do some take off and landings in a original J-3 after flying the Clipped Wing J-3 for some time. Boy that extra 40" per wing sure makes a big difference in lift. I had a blast.

Did a little pheasant hunting today with a good friend, one awesome brittney spaniel, and one very flatulent golden lab in the "super maule" today. Saw a lot of elk on the west side of Coeur D'Alene Lake in North Idaho too (priceless). Who needs an airport?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thursday night I flew by my self for the first time in the 170 to go do some pattern work. I had a lot of fun shooting eight takeoffs and landings out at Pine Bluffs using different flap settings and techniques to see what works best. I also ran into another 170 owner out there who has a 48' ragwing. After a conversation with the fellow 170 owner and topping the tanks off it was about 30 minutes past sunset. I flew the 35 miles back to Cheyenne in exceptionally smooth air and made my first night landing in a long time.

Looking a little high in this picture but I still made the first taxiway

I also went on another nice flight today with my wife, we flew North from Cheyenne and made a landing at Wheatland, Camp Guernsey, had to abort a landing at a grass strip in Glendo due to a bad cross wind, then topped off in Pine Bluffs and flew back to Cheyenne again.

Nice pics. =D> =D>
And yes, there are cosswinds you don't want to tackle in that thing. When I had it it had crosswind gear. An invention of dubious merit, but you could land in an awful croswind once you got used to it.

A little mud bogging today....High pressure moving in for the next few days. Going to be real good flying weather and things will dry out if anyone is heading to the sierra's.

I couldn't have AKtahoe have all the fun. Went out today and tried different video angles. Not really impressed, but had a fun little local flight.

You know what's sad, I recognize where you are in that photo... I didn't fly or go to the hangar today, needed to help the wife out at home, but I'll be working on mine tomorrow...I'm getting anxious to throw some fabric on that wing!

We ended up having an impromtu fly-in at Bijou Bottom this morning. Had 6 planes fly in and another 2 based there. A guy named "Moose" brought his open cockpit ultra-light there. The guy was bundled up head to toe. Had to be since it was below freezing. Anyhow doughnuts, hot coffee, and some hangar flying had by all. Life is good!

Awesome! Trey and Ed (Champ) stopped in the hangar after the fly in to rub it in!

Nice pic Bill. Moose showed up, that guy is great (I've planned to fly with him about a dozen times now, never works out).
