Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

I assume you're talking about a Pilatus PC12 as opposed to a Pilatus PC6 (Porter). PC6 seems more appropriate here on BCP but it'd be a lot slower trip from Truckee to Juneau in one.

I have my first aerobatic lesson today. Also the first time in a Citabria. Here's to hoping I don't lose my blueberry pancakes!

Flew up to Kelso then down to Pearson waiting for darkness to fall. Gusty at Kelso, even gustier at Pearson. Crosswind leg with gusts at low altitude is, uhm, exciting.

Scappoose was an oasis of calm, what night flying is all about. Nice to get my currency up though I rarely fly at night and even less often with passengers.

Flew up from Truckee in my friends Pilatus yesterday with 8 buddies. What a nice aircraft. I think it officially goes into the dream thread about if you had enough money, what would be your ideal cross country plane! Now I am having a hard time between the Pilatus and the turbo otter on Amphibs...I guess I would need both.

Currently in Juneau AK, getting the high pressure here with 2 helicopters. I think the photos will speak for themselves but damn it was a good day. Snow hard in Tahoe now. Will make for some good ski flying when we return.

I saw that PC12 at Aero Services in Juneau yesterday, went over for BFR and Christmas shopping. Beautiful day, a little windy away from the airport. Hope your skiing goes well.

Nice pics aktahoe1, I've always wanted to go heli-skiing, or heli-boarding in my case.

I did get to go flying today but no pics this time. 3 T&G's at Fort Collins/Loveland, 1 landing Easton a dirt strip south of greeley, gas at greeley and back to Cheyenne. It was a nice day with light winds which is always good around here.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Finally an only overcast day but nice and cool. Flew around the valley. Three nice landings in a good crosswind at 4s9. Flew up over the snow in the mtns and circled the 4x4's making tracks. Looked for elk but none to be found this afternoon. Another 1.1 of fine flying in the M-5.

Wasn't today, but a couple days ago...had to go over to our place at Seven Bays, WA to check for frozen pipes and get a greasy Cheese Burger from Bob's at Fort Spokane. Friend Sam McLean rode shotgun and took some video. Fun day.

Patrol Guy,
A nice, double fall line "runway", maybe someday the wind, snow, and rain will quit here and I can fly again. I'm glad others are

We lived up in kettle Falls in the 70's. We would drive by the Seven bays sign a couple times a year and always wondered what it was all about. Now I know. Thanks Mike, I enjoyed your flight.

Back in a previous life, I lived in the Los Angeles area- driving out hwy 14 to the Palmdale area, I used to see a sign for "Aqua Dulce Air Park" & always thought that it was some sort of recreational area where people flew RC planes. Now I know....

Re: Where did you fly today?

Talked two of my buddies into flying to Greenwood airport for breakfast this past Saturday morning. I heard they had a nice restaurant with a "Connie" attached to it. So out we went in my Maule and an Aeronca. While we are having breakfast this occurs:

Image

A 182 with two people on board crashes on takoff. They had to cut one guy out. The other managed to get out. The guy they cut out is in critical condition.

So we sat around all day with the airport closed. We were the only transient aircraft. Late afternoon the FAA guy asks how far away is our home airport. We tell him about 35 minutes and the sun sets at 4:35 pm and the airport doesn't have lights. At 3:40 he says if we can use half the runway, then he'll let us go even though the airport is still closed. Bang! We are out of there! Made it home as the sun hit the horizon.

Glad to have you along, tc. That area was an "undiscovered" part of our state when Peg and I bought our place. It's still pretty laid back, but the secret is out. Mike

Ash-Scattering Plane In Crash

A New Jersey pilot and his passenger came uncomfortably close to becoming metaphors for their mission when the Cessna 182 they were in crashed on takeoff from Greenwood Lake Airport Saturday. The aircraft is owned by Last Wish LLC, which specializes in scattering the cremated remains of those who'd like to spend eternity as part of their favorite hunting, fishing or recreational sites. It's not clear if there was a silent witness to the crash but pilot William Fallon and his passenger Mark Gangi avoided joining the dearly departed and are in the hospital with a variety of injuries, some of them serious.

As for the crash itself, it would appear something went wrong just after takeoff, as the wreck ended up at the end of the runway. "It looks like they hit the ground, nosed it and spun around," West Milford Acting Police Chief Gene Chiosie told local media. The remains of the 182 are undoubtedly headed for the scrapyard.
