Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

I have great neighbors! They must have noticed the grass was getting too tall for me to land in, so they brought equipment in, cut it all down, AND ARE HAULING IT ALL OFF! How's that for considerate neighbors?Image
As long as I was out for a quickie I bopped across the valley (the previous hay field site in the background across the way)and made my third landing at this site, I had a tailwind today, I need to remember to put a wind indicator up there even though that is cheating. Back home and back to work in the shop (solar job) some of my best flights are these spur of the moment short (.8 hr) local flights in between work/jobs/real life!ImageImage

Nothing special, just Troutdale to Salem, Oregon for dinner with the wife and daughter. Now I get to go on a 4 day cycle ride with old fire buddies.

Cheers

Flew on Wednesday, first time since May 9th. Fun flight out of Charlotte Mi. but I couldn't handle the crosswinds. Going back out on Monday.

Did I see a post earlier of a low wing plane on floats at Lake Hood? I moved my plane today and that one is parked right next to my tie down.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Just flew my housemate, then his 16-year-old daughter and then his 10-year-old son.

The 10-year-old hit toy overload, and got pretty quiet with big huge eyes and hands locked on the yoke as he tentatively banked the plane to see people floating, fishing, and skiing on the river; the sixteen year old wasn't too sure about the idea (her first flight), until she started recognizing places and found her high school. My housemate, who used to catch rides as often as he could before kids, was pretty quiet and grinning pretty broadly, especially as he had the yoke and rudders and turned to watch two cars practicing at the speedway.

According to my housemate, I did a "bad, bad thing." Not just reminding him how much he likes flying, but also informing him that if he packs lunch every day for a week, he'll easily have the gas money & engine kitty to fly her for an hour... and I know this instructor...and did I point out the citabria for rent?

First hit's free...

My husband declined to fly, as he's not feeling up to it today, but had a thoroughly fun time watching the housemate and the kids. It's been a good Saturday, and it's not yet 2pm.

What was going on at Skyview? That place is usually dead!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Fantastic flying day.

First to Cottenwood island. Sandy and lumpy. Makes departure interesting, not to mention taxiing. Managed to clip the very same bush I clipped last time.
Next an overflight of "Joe's" NW of Kelso. Small 600 foot strip with cliff at one side. Winds were wrong, so we didn't land. Just as well, I think.
Pilot Pasture on the way north.
Then Fletcher's. Great little strip by an antique car buff who has pilot friends so he built a short airstrip. Maybe 1200'. A medieval group was having a major event just north off the end of the airstrip. Thousands of people, many beating each other with wooden swords.
A quick stop in Chehalis then off to Biggles! I've been wanting to land here for quite some time if for no other reason than it's called Biggles. 800'. Departure means just needing to clear the fence. Clay and Michelle are building a crosswind strip that will be a little longer (1000') but will be one way in.
Next to Whissler for a quick chat with Suzie who used fly crop dusters in North Dakota back in the day. She has a really cute little champ now. Strip is 1200' and is no go around.
We ended up at Kimbrals. Mike had a boat he was building last year that was only a bare hull at the time (35-40'). It's finished now and has been on water. He's perfecting the sail system.
One final stop at FA99 before heading back.

Where are the pics grounlooper? Sounds like some cool places. I've been into Cottonwood myself but not the others. I'll be up there next month, if you feel like flying into some of these places again I would love to tag along!

Pictures!

Fletcher's strip top left. SCA Event. Based on cars I estimate upwards of 1000 people.

Biggles. Right strip is the 800' strip. New 1000' crosswind strip being built to left.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hi Guys,
Saturday I enjoyed the day flying and fishing with Supermaule aka James, while he was here in AK. We met in Soldotna
and headed accross to the west side for a day of fun. First we stopped a couple of places on the Kustatan river to catch
some Silvers. Next, we enjoyed flying around sight seeing and trying out a few sand bars in the McArthur river. It was a great day, and I truly enjoyed meeting and spending time with James. Here are a few pics I took and James will have more to follow. I guess I need help uploading pics.

Re: Where did you fly today?

8/16/11 Troutdale, Oregon to Port Angeles, Washington. This was one of those perfect days. Wind 4 mph at 7500 over the Olympic mountains, pure sun and only a few little bumps. Went with an old fireman pal. Had lunch with his son who is a firefighter up there. Had a really great Mexican lunch. CAVU Video to follow.

I do believe I need to go to the beach again today. Pure sun and light wind. Yep, just talked myself into it. See ya

Re: Where did you fly today?

Took the wife and daughter to Pacific City for lunch. The wind was a little on the squirrelly so we went over to Tillamook for some practice. Working on the video now.

Cheers
