Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I just dropped off the 170 in Cal City for the Sportsman Stol install. I can't wait to pick it up next weekend! And thanks to piperpainter for giving me a ride home.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Nice video, Tom.

Flew out to Copalis yesterday. Strong winds out of the SE made it "Sporty" with the airspeed indicator jumping between 60 and 80mph.

Stopped at Elma on the way back. One of the BCP lurkers flew his 195 in along with another fellow who'd restored (with modifications) a Fairchild.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Looks like a nice evening and I need to check the home in Madras, get an adjustment on the carb heat on Miss Maullie and pay my bill. So I do believe I'll head that way now. Troutdale to Madras, Oregon 45 minutes

The tutorial page:

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2274

Basically cut the "j40-mjJiYUY" from the youtube link and put it between the "{youtube}" "{/youtube}" tags you get when you select the "youtube" button at the top of the edit box.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I had an opportunity to fly alongside a Sikorsky SkyCrane this weekend, and blew it. Coming into Afton Wyo. on a breakfast run, I also needed a few things at the big Ace Hardware store that's right on the way to the cafe, plus needed to pay FBO'er Mark for prior help when I broke a prop blade there some weeks earlier. He let me off VERY easy BTW, much appreciated. Just as I was calling out left turn onto base for 34, he was lifting off the ramp, southbound.

Being the by the book pilot that I am  it never occured me that this was a once in a lifetime chance to fly along the big beast, the air was smooth, and there was no other traffic, and if I had simply turned right I could have joined up and escorted them out of the area. As it was I reported I'd just extend my base leg east of the centerline and let them continue their takeoff without me being a factor, I mean we are talking 460 GPH for them versus 3 or so for me.... After they cleared the centerline I re-assumed my approach and as I was landing at the very north end (nearest the cafe) no worries about the turbulence it may have stirred up, I don't even want to imagine what that could be like!

It wasn't until after breakfast, and in the FBO looking at the pictures Mark took of the thing that I realized what I had done, or not done. #-o Oh well, next time maybe. I did the exact right thing pattern work/traffic wise, but damn I was asleep at the wheel not to have seized the chance to fly formation with it a bit!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Looks good Rob. Maybe if you found some shorter clecos they might work like VGs and you would have a super STOL wing. Would be a challenge getting wing covers on and off though.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Found a cool place up in the hills just about a 5 minute flight from base. About 1000ft of space on a nice slope with not too many rocks. The ones that are there, though, are kinda sharp. Nice views on either side of the ridge, would make a great camping spot if I could ever find out who owns it

I did several low approaches and finally committed, with an uneventful landing and departure. I found it yesterday while exploring, but the turb was too much...nice smooth air this morning, a light tailwind for the uphill landing...

Got the landing and takeoff on video too, I'll try to get that edited on soon...
