Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Unbelievably nice flying weather today in Oregon. I flew out to the Alvord Desert, which is a dry lake bed in South Eastern Oregon.

I landed on the lake bed and walked over to the Alvord Hot Springs and had a nice relaxing soak.

Had a bunch of fun playing in the plane around the area. Beautiful day!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thanks for the video, Clip. My daughter just turned 8 and loves to fly too. I really like your idea of seeing the world through her eyes. I'm sure through the eyes of your daughter, her dad is 10 feet tall. =D>

Nicely done.

PS--nice pics OR180. That's more blue sky than I've seen in all my time in Oregon put together!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Geez, I'm on some kind of roll, the third 8K+ newbie this week, the weather has been so perfect I've been setting the alarm for 5 and in the air by 6 and flying 3 to 5 hours just about every day. And, when I get back to my place, it's STILL calm, it just doesn't get any better.

Big time rock climber destination "City of the Rocks", I'd rather be in the air.Image

Then on up higher, to the 8600' level, big rocks all around, but I found this area that was nothing but gravel. It just took a little circling and 10 minutes or so to spot and setup. I wasn't in a hurry that's for sure.Image

There was a little spring fed pond you can see in the last picture, that if used for micro hydro elctricity, would have about 1500 PSI of pressure due to the short and steep drop to the valley 3500' below! At that pressure it doesn't take much GPM to put out some real power, my own only has 147' of fall, at 90 GPM, and I get 800 watts 24/7, caution:thread drift!Image

Not today, but Friday. Great weather for my solo long x-country up the coast.

Flew from Idaho Falls to Midvale, ID for a Hell's Canyon river trip.

My route took me right over my place of employment.
Image

Got over Copper Basin and I was informed by my passenger that if I didn't get her on the ground pronto then she was going to pee in the plane...I promptly landed at Copper Basin. We were loaded to the hilt so I was somewhat concerned that we wouldn't get off the ground again, not sure what the DA was but the strip is at 7920. Ended up being a non issue.

Snow in the high mountains but not as much as usual.

Nah, just don't pay attention to the razor wire, security guards, and the highly regimented schedule. ;)

Not amwtp. I probably shouldn't have posted the pic but I thought the old navy nukes would like seeing what their old training grounds look like.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Is it viewable on google earth or other sat photo websites? If so, it must be OK to post. I worked on a secret Navy project last year & was told that it was blanked out on the sat-photo websites, but I looked recently & it was visible. So if that was true, it was only while it was under construction.

Re: Where did you fly today?

finally, finally, finally, I got to fly again tonight! The snow is nearly all gone but we have had rain and wind for two weeks. Today was the first nice day in a really long time and I got "charlie" out and buzzed around the pattern for some T&G work.

we head for Juneau in the AM and I will try to take some pics then see it I can fight my way through the process again to post them.

Later tater

Where did you fly today?

Willamette International is in great shape!
Well compacted from the river receding and the water draining through it.
