Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Did some early morning mountain flying in the worlds smallest mountain range.Image
Interesting to imagine what this all would have looked like when Jedidiah Smith wintered on the Sutter Buttes during his exploration mission in the early 1800's.ImageThe whole valley was pretty much flooded, and the Sutter Buttes were basically an island. Elk and Grizzlies were plentiful and black oaks filled the valley.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Yesterday Adam and I took some neighbors flying. The father is a pilot but hasn't flown for 6 years. They just moved out here earlier this year from Cleveland. Needless to say this was different than any other flying he had done. It was a "10" day and it was a shame to put the plane away by 11am!

Yeah, he insisted on it coming as usual. I told him he better not loose him because some of the places we went might soon not be landable for a while!

In that case, better make up a little survival kit and mount it on Spot's collar for him. (might even wanna include a SPOT!)

Re: Where did you fly today?

Some nice clear weather yesterday, so I flew a little tour of our local volcanos.

Here's Mt McLoughlin, "Southern Oregon's Mt Fuji." My nephew and I hiked to the top of if just a few weeks ago. Glad it now has some snow on it.

Beautiful landing.

Looks like a dried up drought stricken resevoir. New Melones? Don Pedro? Looks familiar but hard to tell without the actual water.

What are the rules on landing there? I assume because it's below the mean high water mark its legal but just wondering.
