This was just too sweet of a refueling stop to pass up, billard table flat and smooth, with plenty of room away from people and structures so no one got excited, or even noticed. This was something I did a LOT of during the early and mid '80's when going XC in my Pterodactyl ultralight. I think my longest flight was 1800 miles, making up my fuel stops as I went. I never, as in never, refueled at an airport, but did carry a sectional so I knew where they were at, so I could avoid them. I also never had any hassles doing this, as in Feds or local police, forget the usual off airport skills needed to do this safely, more or as important is knowing when and when not to do it in a politcially correct fashion, without calling undue attention to yourself. Circling overhead while you eyeball a site is a sure way to do that, as is a loud plane, scoping things out at a distance and then making a stealth approach works. I got expert at this, and I guess have not lost my touch. Truck stops, gotta love them. $3.19 a gallon I think it was. I won't say where it is so don't ask, publically anyway.
