Nice! I used have "Makena" in Rainbow Marina next to the Bowfin. It took an act of Congress to go sailing in Pearl Harbor as a civilian.

Thx fo da fotos Brah!

Re: Where did you NOT fly today??

we saw those boats in that small marina...... mostly high dollar yachts and sail....now that I think of it I didn't see anything private in the harbor... not like San Diego are private boats not permitted.

"Makena" was in the small Marina on the other side of the Ford Is. bridge, named "Rainbow". We had to have a background check and strick radio contact with Port Police leaving and entering Pearl Harbor.

9-11 really changed the place!

Good call Marty..... Fish Creek Pass, Wyoming is thataway, several ridge lines over, about 60 miles. In fact, the Aviat/Husky plant is pretty much dead ahead in that shot, more importantly the cafe a few minutes walk from the Afton airport. Plus, lots of winter and summer off airport places to play around on the way back. My backyard :D

I have many hours on a scope. Here is a pic that was taken through our scope.

Taken pretty far north. I was a ships diver and would not have wanted to be in the water that day.

What memories

Re: Where did you NOT fly today??

It was just a minute ago.....

Back when it was fun flying in the Arctic. 8.50X6 were "big" tires. Had a Whiskey compass in the panel that didn't work too well. VHF Comm was an antique coffee grinder POS that really had to be coaxed to talk on the thing. Hearing it on the other hand was from the speaker overhead. "Say Again?"

No GPS, no ADF, no VOR. Needle-ball-airspeed were what you flew in the muck and white-out conditions with. No PLB's or SPOT, so if ya broke down you counted on your buddies to come find you, or it was a loooooong snowshoe trip to a village. Flight planning was folding up the WAC to sit on your lap open for where you planned on flying that day.

Fun then, sorta. But no way Jose would I want to give up my GPS and reliable comm I have now. Gettin' very lazy in my old age.

Re: Where did you NOT fly today??

Didn't fly into Hells Canyon last week, instead we drove in to Pittsburg Landing and then took our boat upstream.

These pics are from Big Bar. Wanted to check the strip out. I think I could land there but would rather just go across the river and land at Temperance Creek and not beat the airplane up. IAA did a work party here the following day. Some old mining equipment and what looks like the Ford flathead that powered it:

Big Bar Hilton... looks about like the Owyhee Hilton, maybe not AS nice...

This place is heaven for birds of pray. Mice everywhere.

Beautiful colors this time of year. There is so much contrast from the muted colors of the canyon grass and rock.

Re: Where did you NOT fly today??

Yesterday, I didn't fly (but rode in a United Charter 747's first class) from Eastern Europe to Elmendorf and finally Fort Wainwright. First time in a while I've been in the Anchorage bowl. Strikes me every time how beautiful it is. Nice to be typing this as quietly as possible so I don't wake up my wife or any of the kids.

Now it's time to check out the progress on the annual and see when I can get back in the air.
