Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Where did you fly today?

Didn't get any pics, but flew a super cub that we have been working on for awhile around the pattern. I'm sure the owner is going to be thrilled with the changes. :-)

Re: Where did you fly today?

I landed this ridge today for the first time, and though I fly this area often, much of it has a barbed wire fence in the way, and for some reason I have never seen this fence free section. Touchdown was right uphill of the knoll, no picture on the ground as it was steep enough to make a full stop problematic. Parking sideways with my preferred tire pressure might have folded the tire over and besides I had to get to work and was short on time! Image

Later in the day I was in town and cruising down a main drag, when I realized I could see said ridge in the distance, but then I also noticed something else up there. It took my eyeballs and my brain a second or three to figure out what was going on, to put things in perspective. The advertising blimp threw me for a loop as it was almost perfectly centered over my landing spot, what are the odds of that #-o

Went to Chukar Flats this morning. Beautiful day! The north end is much smoother than the south.

The Kodiak sure is a nice machine,Id like to add that one to the bucket list to fly. Looking at the photo, makes me wonder how many pilots take off and leave the pogo stick behind.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Had the best kind of day yesterday--good Wx and spoiled rotten by getting to fly three different planes.

Spent the morning looking for critters in the Cub. Spent the afternoon tuning up in the Bush Hawk to make sure I could get it in and out of the shorter strip it now calls home, then ferrying it over. Then spent the evening rubbing the shine off my new bushwheels!

Re: Where did you fly today?

When the airplane is covered in cow$h!t, it's either a good day or a bad day. Since I'm still smiling, it must have been a good day.

Chosstronaught and I took off from Corvallis. Flew along the river a bit looking for Little John. No sign of him doing float landings so we headed west towards Toledo, hitting a strip that the Chossmeister found a while back, about 1000', one way, slopes up hill. Apparently they graze cows on it too and fairly recently.

Off to Toledo for BBQ lunch then hit most of the smaller strips up the coast, Pacific City, Nehalem, and Ilwaco. Afterwards flew up the Columbia towards kelso. Found a strip on an island. Chart says martins but we think Martins is gone and this is a new one. Did low passes. A lady came out on the porch. Looked for waving but she didn't seem to be inviting so continued on to the West to Joe's strip. Joe had his logging rig on the runway and there were a couple of cars and a quad. Suddenly the truck started moving off the runway then the cars. Of course we were obligated to stop by then. The Choss dude has no problem with this 650 foot strip that also slopes uphill. Took me two tries to get it. Taking off I was able to clear the trees with a slightly more comfortable margin than the time before. Challenging strip for a 172.

One final stop on Cottonwood island. His Chossticle noticed another airplane on a ridiculously small beach. Turned out to be Loni.

Great day with clear skies and good or calm winds.

Yep awesome day with you, like they always seem to be :D

Here is Craig in a field of cow shit...

Did I mention that Craig is the best 172 pilot I've seen, hes landed places I never would have thought possible in a 172... and he doesn't even have a STOL kit!

Yeah was funny they picked the smallest beach on Cottowood, so naturally I had to land and say hi.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew in to Temperance Creek with a fellow shortwinger in his Pacer/Clipper. We were blessed with great weather. First time in there, what a cool place and great smooth strip, and the low elevation is a nice bonus.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Just a little local flight around North Pole. I was planning to just make a quick flight to test my relocated pitot/static tube. But it was so nice out I just kept going. Left some tracks on a snowmachine highway, did a little hand flying and cruised around looking for moose, buzzed a friend's cabin (no one home). Just wish I'd taken time to grab some long johns before taking off. #-o
