Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Noreen was itching to go flying, so we took a couple of hours Saturday and flew up Spanish Fork Canyon, buzzed some aspen trees, then flew to Heber, Utah to see her sisters house, then back home. A beautiful day, a little bumpy in the valley and over the tops of the mountains, but still better than not flying!

Cool vid Alan. I flew down to Richfield and back to KSLC today. Severe clear. Your vid makes me want to take a more scenic route next time.

Six Two Leemer - I always regret not taking the scenic route after the trip! When I'm in a hurry in the plane I go straight line to my destination, then afterwards I wish I would have taken the more interesting, longer route.

AKGCBC those are some awesome photos. I wish we had places like that to fly to closer to Fairbanks.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Found out a friend got a slot in the C-12 course and had never been in a light airplane. So I took him up in the trusty rental 172 and showed him around the Northeast corner of the Rose Hill MOA. He got a kick out of it, it was a good day for flying too.

Made my first dry creek bed landing in the bottom of Palo Duro Canyon. Did five low passes to find the right spot where there weren't too many rocks. Was going to do a touch and go to test surface, but once I touched down I could tell sand was firm so I went ahead and landed. When I shut down I realized I was shaking a little. It was a rush in a good way! Can't wait to get back and do more and get better pics. I'm new to backcountry flying and my little plane, but so far it is as much fun as I had imagined it would be.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I always dread that moment when I am fully committed to a new off airport landing site, and I put it off as long as possible, using the excuse of "checking it over one more time". A lot of the slopes I land preclude a prior running of the wheels along the surface, that could cause more problems then it'd be worth. BUT, when the final decision to land a new place is made, the last notch of flaps engaged, and the plane sinks below the last go round spot and now the landing MUST be made, is a deeply satisfying thrill like no other. Followed by the silence when shut down, getting out and going "wow, that was cool". I've never had that feeling at an airport. That looks like a good spot to play in!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Took another amazing trip out to Lake George to get my wife out there. She has not warmed up to flying as much as I hoped she would, but after yesterday's trip I think that might change! The weather was absolutely gorgeous with no wind and no bumps and a beautiful sunset on the return! That is the kind of flying she enjoys!

Nice Pics. Even nicer plane. Good choice for a first Backcountry plane. I pretty much figure that if I can't get in and out of a strip with my S-7, I don't belong there in the first place.

Looks great, BRD. I really enjoyed reading the SeaBee stories in the Kenmore Air book. I'd love a ride in one someday.

The hangar. To tinker with a new Ram mount for my iPad and install an accessory pouch from Sportys.

Worked out pretty well except I didn't get to fly.
