Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

It's so dang cool to finally be done with all the hoop jumping and actually be flyin these Turbine Thrushes now. Here's some shots from this afternoon flying the S2R. It's powered by a garret -6 roughly 800HP. Like nothin else I've flown, really fun ;)

And a big thanks to all u BCP guys for posting all ur experiences on here over the years. I started lurking here before I even got my ticket or bought my 180 just over 3 years ago. So many pilots/instructors tried to talk me outta starting out in tailwheel an especially a 180. Luckily, there is a site like this that helped me realize that I could do it and to follow my dreams!!!

Congrats Luke!!! Good Job!!!!

You Skalywag. Jeez that looks like a heck of a lot of fun. That is the first time I've seen those type winglets on a plane that size. They are usually reserved for the higher speed types.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thanks everyone, havin a blast flyin!!! Sidewinder, the S2R I'm flyin originally had a 1340 and shorter wings. When they hung the Garret they extended the wings and put the winglets on. These birds will haul 400 gallons like nobody's business. So far I've been flying lighter loads n this thing doesn't even notice 1000 pounds, it's crazy how these things can haul. Empty she's off the ground bout as short as my Skywagon n lands just as short. Gusty crosswinds are alot of fun ;)

Re: Where did you fly today?

I was slaving away outside the shop, getting several different solar arrays ready to deliver, when I took a break and got the camera out to take some pics of the work in progress. I was having a hard time getting the right composition, and then I remembered I had an airplane in the downstairs hangar. #-o I really didn't have the time to go flying, so I cut it short. Total flight time was 6 minutes, and then the break was over and it was back to work. The plane's shadow was a bonus.Image Later that same day, I was in the shop welding, with the radio blaring and the band saw cutting. I became aware of yet another sound, almost a vibration or a resonance. Shutting everything off, I still heard/felt it, a glance outside showed the cause. The cool thing about being on the ridge above the valley is quite often aircraft fly by at (my) eyeball level, though 1,000 AGL. I first saw them a couple days earlier heading S, into a rain squall, coming back N they had better weather. National Guard??Image Got a pair of some kind of big ass soaring birds, and it looks like they are settling in for the summer. Either they are "wrestling" or they are trying to make little big soaring birds. One has been spotted on top the other anyway, even in flight. =D> Image

This place is cool. Old time cowboys used to trap mustang's here. Natural wings and a natural corral with only a bit of fencing necessary. Image

That's some awesome looking country there Coyote. What part of the world is it? Kind of reminds me of Hells Half Acre in Wyoming.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Beautiful weather in the PNW!

Took a little flight around in my Dad's C-150 with him. He's and old UH-60 pilot himself and went half on the plane with another guy to start fixed wing flight lessons in.

Flew out of Priest River to Deer Park for fuel, then up the Pend Oreille River to take some shots of the house, then touch and goes at Ione and back to 1S6. Beautiful weather and a nice flight!

Flew over Bighorns place on the way to work today. Still there Willie ;)

They're always burning something down here seems like, usually sugar cane but these were controlled burns on ranch land.
Image
Back at work, our runways have really nice grass on each end and sides, which is nice cause both of us have bushwheels on our 180's. The work trucks have 29's too just not the Bushwheel kind, still cool though ;)
