Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

BRD,

SUREAL. Peace aftermath.

Question: How did you get her up on the little float next to the dock?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thanks 8G!

That's actually a hydraulic platform lift. Start Cub, do checks etc, hit the down button on a key fob.
After returning, position the Cub back over said lift and hit the up button. Pretty simple!

Looks very clean and easy. Do you get much seasonal water level change? We get massive water level changes in most lakes in Oregon because of irrigation needs. Levels change up to 200' and more !

Re: Where did you fly today?

Ah! That would make a difference! No, we get maybe 6 inches to a foot (max) of water level change over a Summer. Winter change is almost nil. Probably only 4 inches difference this Summer, if that.

This would be something that would work for you. I see pontoons use them from here to the salt waterways of Florida.

Wow brad! What an amazing photo set! I was about to ask the same question as ted about the platform, but you have already answered it, would be amazing to see it in action if you ever feel like making a video

From a sailor's perspective...

At your latitude dusk turns to night slowly in the Summer. In the tropics the darkness comes much faster. Arriving in Hawaii last week I was startled at how fast/early it got dark compared to the Pacific North West.

* Sunset at Portland, Oregon was 20:25 then twilight lasted at least an hour after that.
* Sunset at Honolulu, Hawaii was 19:30 and twilight only lasted 25 minutes.

Much easier to get a Star sight with a Sextant in high latitudes! The horizon lasts much longer after Sunset.

Love your pictures and the area!

Note: Try a LED landing light, not cheap but, gives more confidence.

BRD- How in the world do your photos look so great. Is it the camera, editing, or both?

Roger that on the LED landing light. 8)

1. Good glass
2. Good sensor
3. Shoot in RAW
4. Process in Photoshop (allows you to draw color and things hidden in shadow out - especially if you shoot in RAW first)

But be careful to not overcook the highlights, bring out the shadows too much, and rob your photos of tonal depth and natural look. It takes a steadied hand. :)

Beautiful! Wonderful!

I can see "ship wreck"beach. Best to surf in the morning, like California, the interior heats up and the sea breeze starts around 10:00AM. The mornings have a gentle off shore land breeze.

Looking at the photo I would estimate the flight was afternoon.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hey Zane, Jim at the hangar showed me how to use Lab color this afternoon. So I took that same shot as above and ran it through curves in Lab. Made a difference! (whoa, the thing is sensitive though!

I like "After". The boat wakes may be easier to see in "Before" however.. Viewing from my iPAD with "Retina" screen.

Re: Where did you fly today?

True res wakes. I think the after is closer to what you're actually seeing when flying as the contrasts aren't as dramatic to the human eye as in the before shot. Fun! :D

You got me thinking... If an enhanced photo has more resolution, would I prefer it over what my eye sees?

Our business we use RADAR, SONAR, infrared, radio/light spectrum analysis to help with situational awareness. A sign of the times.

Opinion: the more information (within reason) a picture can behold the better, I like it. Keep up the good work.

Thank you!
