Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Tempted to go to Powers but the guy I need to see in Washington was busy. Flew around Mt Baker instead.

Re: Where did you fly today?

It was one of those REALLY nice days here in Western Washington. It was good to be out flying. I'm based out of Arlington so I decided to check out Easton State and Lake Wenatchee State and then to head North to Stehekin State.

Some pictures from visits in the past.

The strip looked like it was in really good condition.

I think these are wild strawberries that are found on the strip this time of year.
Image

Then it was off to flyby Lake Wenatchee State. I flew by here last year and it was in the middle of about 20 TFRs due to all our fires.
Image

I headed North and East out of there for Stehekin. It is one of the more challenging strips here in Washington. I intercepted Lake Chelan and followed it North to the strip.
Image

The South end of the strip is usually in great condition. If the grass is not too long. The North end is usually pretty bare with quite a bit of gravel and can be soft. I try to walk it throwing loose rocks off if I can.

Then on to home. Past Glacier Peak and some cool valleys:

Past the Oso slide area. More that 30 people were killed in a landslide here last year.

Re: Where did you fly today?

All of the Washington State owned grass strips are closed from October 1 - June 1 except for approved Public Safety/Law Enforcement Heli Ops. At least that's what it says in the notes section of AirNav and in the AFD. Great pictures, but I'll wait until they're officially open just to be sure.

A buddy of mine came down from Alaska and borrowed a Super Cub so we met up for a short little flight up the Columbia

Just putzing around south of Port Townsend around Quilcence and Dabob Bay

The first shot is Quilcene Valley below the Olympic Mountains

Here's what it looks like when you raise your gaze from the vally:

The interesting "town" of Bridgehaven just south of the Hood Canal Bridge. These folks must love boats as much as we love planes

And the schooner Adventuress out in Puget Sound

Beautiful pics.

O22 was (and remains my 'spiritual') home for many years until I moved to the Pacific Northwest. I see you enjoyed Two-Niner.

My home was about a half mile or less off to the right before the threshold of Runway 11.

You can find it on the Utah Backcountry Pilots site http://www.utahbackcountrypilots.org/airport_search.asp be sure to unclick the box that says "useable airstrips only" to see all of the airstrips.
