Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Sometimes you watch a bluebird day pass you by through the office window.

Some days you revel in the view of the Alaska range through the Stationaire windscreen flying to Talkeetna for a burger.

Some days you meet Don Lee outside the Sheldon air service hangar and he compliments you on how nice your Stationaire is. Don F}#%in Lee!!! Unfortunately, the airplane nudged me back to reality when I had trouble hot starting it and it finally caught straight to almost 2000 RPM. I'm that guy

I always enjoy a walking tour of the Talkeetna ramp. Too bad I didn't have time today.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew down to San Jose international today for a work related class. That's something to do once every couple years just to remind yourself why you don't! I don't have any pictures because no one gives a shit what San Jose international looks like! On the plus side I seen Jonathan, "JBO" on BCP, standing next to one of those corporate jet things.

Re: Where did you fly today?

After a spring snow storm dusted the Pine Nut mountains of the eastern Carson Valley, a Carbon Cub and a vintage 182 demonstrated how tailddraggers and nosedraggers can play nicely together!

That CC uses very little real estate! Nice flying with you Mike.

That looks like a great spot Pierre, I'd be curious to see exactly where that is.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I was leaving Healy Wednesday afternoon when a stationair or a 182 coming through from McKinley pulled up beside me and talked for a bit then he blasted on into Fairbanks, left me in the dust. Thought it might have been you?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Todd Banks came down from KC yesterday and I flew with him. He has a very nice Savage Cub with 100 hp. We went over the low ground effect takeoff. He found that wiggling the stick much more than he had works for staying in low ground effect. We did energy management turns and flew a few miles of Explorer Pipeline. We had lunch at the Hanger Cafe at Kingsley Field. The really good flaps made the apparent brisk walk rate of closure a snap. He likes to use a steep approach and didn't even have to use much power at the bottom with sixty, I think, degrees of flap. He also likes the three point landing in light winds and I could see that the transition from the very steep pitch attitude to a wheel landing could be awkward. I have always told students, "if the tail wheel is down, keep it down." Of course, a strong wind would cause the airplane to be much leveler, even with full flaps. Apparent rate is a ground speed thing, not an airspeed thing.

Kinman had an A9 Callair modified to a two seat airplane now. That is the best spray plane I ever flew. I always had a bad back and it flies, even with a full hopper, like it has hydraulics. All control surfaces have ribs. They removed the hopper and moved the engine back to make it a two place side by side. Coil spring gear is about sixteen feet wide. I have never seen one ground loop. Weight and balance in spray planes is very nose heavy until you get about half hopper load. Kiman still has an Ag pilot program, but I don't know the instructor. I wish Slim Kingsley would get his CFI. He was my best Ag student. Kevin Kingsley has an Air Tractor 402 now with the PT-6 engine.

Yesterday I got to fly a T-6B as a target for an F-18 radar test. It was way cool :).
