Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Is that an authentic U-17, or is it just painted up like one?
I thought the U-17's were all 185's, with the big dorsal, but googling it just now I see there was a 470-powered U-17C variant.
Either way, it looks great-- needs guns though, or at least smoke rockets.

Re: Where did you fly today?

It's a 180 painted to look like a U-17. The previous owner was an author of military books and apparently wanted his plane to resemble that type of aircraft.

If you and Justin or others are hitting some of Kevin's north spots maybe I can meet you at Beckwourth and drive you to this and to lunch so you can get a growler.

Little more time training. Sky wasn't looking real good during preflight but it cleared up.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I didn't do the flying, but EAA Chapter 170 is hosting a stop for the Ford Tri-Motor right now at KSBP and the SLO 99s generously sponsored ten Cal Poly Aerospace students for a flight! It was a fun short ride this morning around a local beach and back. I don't get to do much flying during the school year, so it was nice to get back up in the air in a fun plane!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Meanwhile just up the coast from San Luis Obispo and that bitchin' Tri-Motor...

The missus and I went for a joy ride in the 7KCAB down the coast to Pebble Beach, Carmel, Big Sur, over the mountains and back up the Salinas valley. Beautiful day to be an aviator.

Pretty lucky to be able to spend 18 months in Monterey. Not a terrible place to set up camp.
