Re: 2012 Annual Summer Fly-in at Johnson Creek, ID

Anybody want to head North with me on Tuesday-Thur to hit SuperMaule's neck of the woods (5 grass strips at least) and Fish Lake? I'm also from that area and it's just too close to JC to not pop in and see my parents. I'm planning on getting into JC on Thursday evening.

Joey, we can probably do some flying with you before the fly-in. Right now it looks like we'll be heading up there on the 16th.

OK, I'll bring my electric ice cream maker............... I have a good recipe that should work at altitude. Who is furnishing ice?

It looks like my son (currently in Kandahar, AF) will be with me as well. He should get back to US soil later in May. He needs some good fishing spots for that time of year. So will need a bit of guidance when we arrive, probably on the 18th.

I'lll do my best to stay on airstrips this year...................

Re: 2012 Annual Summer Fly-in at Johnson Creek, ID

I'm looking at flying commercial into Boise Friday late morning and then back out of Boise Sunday evening. What are the chances of someone shuttling me from BOI into JC and back, via car or plane? If by plane, I'm guessing I could walk from the terminal to an FBO or something for a pickup. If possible I might have to burn a sick day and buy a ticket, looks like tonight I can buy a ticket out of DEN for right at $400.

EDIT....ooo I can just rent a car from BOI and drive up, then regardless of weather I'll be able to get in and out... Wow, still like a 4.5hr drive from BOI...crazy!

Mkay, Caveman was so much fun - I'm trying to piece together a way to get there too. At the moment - I am thinking about taking the DA40 to McCall. Perhaps I can get a lift to JC from McCall?? I will have whiskey, straight from a cask in Edinborough.

You're serious about making sure you get your reserved spot this year aren't you! Is there a tent and chair already set up to claim your spot?

Seriously though, hope you had a nice flight over. I'm itching to get up there. Hey, I'll be in PDX at the end of the week. I'll let you and Zane know when.

Re: 2012 Annual Summer Fly-in at Johnson Creek, ID

Friday flew to Joseph Oregon. Wup let me use the Suburban, thanks Wup!

Saturday took the wife and daughter to Johnson Creek. We met the new care takers Phil and Roxie or something close to that. Todd from IDA was there getting the water going.

Next thing I see is Idahomauledriver shows up. Then a real nice Cessna 180 with Allen and Lori and their to daughters. Allen lurks here, but I think he will sign up now.

Dave Imel the nice retire teacher who lived in YP and recently passed. His son Jim and wife are having a huge estate sale. Tons of great SWAG! If I had my truck I would have been in real trouble! I got some real bargains!!

Nice, that measuring wheel could be handy to keep in the back of the plane.

Great idea. How many times have I stepped off a spot I just landed trying to decide how much stuff/kids I was going to have to leave behind to get out of there........only to second guess my counting ability and get nervous I was off by 50ft, haha!

Re: 2012 Annual Summer Fly-in at Johnson Creek, ID

I don't see any of Daves guns in the picture.. any word on what they did with those... When I met Dave 10 years ago he invited me to his home for elk burgers and bear and deer steaks... when I asked him if all those guns on the wall were loaded he replied.."what the hell good is an unloaded gun"...ever since then we became good friends and he would drive out to JC and give me a truck or Jeep to use while I was camped at JC... explored some fantastic country and back roads around Yellow Pine that I wouldn't get to see with the rental vans...He'll be missed... :(

Looks like we will be leaving on the 16th, Joey told me he plans on leaving that morning too. We will be going to Nervino, Denio Junction, then Owyhee Reservoir. Anyone else leaving the 16th?
