Speaking of ICE. Last year the ice cream was real popular and didn't stretch well.
Well, I have a line (pretty solid) on borrowing an approx 3 gal hand crank ice cream freezer to bring to JC. I/we would also need a straw boss with a recipe, the ingredients, plus ice, and salt. Oh, and a line of strong arms.
I can bring the freezer and salt in my (little) cub, but space and wt. wise I think the ingredients might be better spread out (understatement). Several folks/planes could each bring a half gal or qt of cream (needs cream, right?) in their cooler. If there is turbulence, only a couple of planes will get in it bad, and show up with butter , right?
I will find out actual capacity and post as we get closer and we firm things up.
How does that sound?

Super Cubbers: I will go way out on a limb here. If this sounds like a good idea for the weekend before at your get-together, if someone from N central or NW WA wants to prearrange and pick up the freezer at W20 on their way in, it could be left with the JC caretaker for us the following weekend. I would then bring it home.

I know both ice cream freezers that were there last year will be there again this year (crossing my fingers on the weather). Probably works out to be the most expensive ice cream in the world, but hey when you can camp in style, why not?

Are generators acceptable at JC? I don't want to upset anyone, but if I can bring a small Honda 1000 generator (it is very quiet) it would be helpful for ice cream making.

I will be flying a 182 out. I am REALLY looking forward to this + any other NW trips you guys have planned.

OREGONMAULE is the offical generator guy..if he can bring one I'm sure you can.

Rob will already have a generator there....but you don't really need it. There is power there. Seems a lot of cranking could be avoided with a couple electric ice cream makers. Work smarter, not harder!

Got it. I was suffering under the illusion that 'size maters'.
It might be bigger than 3 gal by a gal or so.....
There is no plugging it in.
When I was a kid at homemade ice cream parties, part of the fun was taking turns on the crank.

So, maybe I'm still a kid at heart.

Hello folks I and some friens are flyimg in from ms and AR this year and was going to make a 10 day trip out of it. We were wanting to fly each day and find some places that you can camp by your plan on our way out. We are looking for some places like JC that have Facilites if any of you know some cool places or tell me how to find that info I would greatly appreciate it. I am flying a Rans S7 and my friend is flying a Maule and possibly couple other guys going but not 100% on them yet. Thanks Lonnie

Hey Lonnie - not sure what route you guys are planning, and I don't know CO that well, but Caveman might be a nice stop, or somewhere in UT backcountry. You could also stop at West Desert Airpark in Fairfield, UT - that's Mark Pringles place, Rans Dealer.

Get Glenn Hanselmans UT and ID backcountry books - great resource for these areas.

You might also map out a "possible" route and post (like on Skyvector). Others might be able to see the general line you guys are taking and make suggestions.

Look forward to see you guys! Let's see how many Rans S7's we can get into Mile Hi for a pic this year.

Does a 235HP Maule count as 2.33 Rans?

If you get close to JC but too late in the day to make it all the way in, you can stop at Smiley Creek. Great place to camp and they have showers and toilets. Or you can get a room at the Smiley Creek Lodge. Have fun!!

Sort of Rob. You do need 2.33 my take-off roll, at all loadings. Landing, well you're a pretty good stick, so let's just call it 2x

Of course you can carry a generator for you electric pillow pet, so I got nothin' there.
