Re: BCP Annual Fly-In 27-29 June 2014 @Garden Valley, ID

We landed at Big Creek about 9:00am, about half hour after the crash. It was a "Peterson Katmai 182". In the trees about 200 yards short of runway 19. Only the 67 year old pilot was on board, Serious injures. 2 choppers showed up to transport him out. By around 10am the choppers had left and the crew that helped with the rescue was headed back to the top of the strip. I am sure someone that was part or the rescue will have more info.
Prayers for a full recovery and for the Family members...

Well, another BCP fly-in in the books. Definitely a different experience this year. I've never flown through so much rain in a GA airplane! Luckily the vis in the canyons was good enough to get around a little bit. We learned some good "camping in rain" lessons and were glad we brought the extra tarps and heater. We managed to get out and fly each day, although we didn't get to do as much as we wanted. The breakfast at Big Creek and flight over and back ended the week on a good note.

Pics to come on the other thread!

Re: BCP Annual Fly-In 27-29 June 2014 @Garden Valley, ID

A pretty fun weekend, other then that clogged up toilet Sunday morning (the saying "if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem" came to mind ), good to see you all as always, and best of all none of us screwed up and kept it safe.

The big takeaways for me were: it's EVAN, not IVAN, and it's a SAVANNAH, not a ZENITH! That if you have a Maule, you don't need no frigging tent. That Pops, besides being a mandolin (some sort of small stringed instrument anyway, nicely airplane sized) ) player, is also a songwriter, or at least a song re-arranger. And, that it may be more complicated, and more fun, flying with toddlers. Wow, you guys doing so, my hat is off to you, juggling chainsaws comes to mind, always impressive to see!

My workaholism got the best of me and I headed straight home, at one point well over 13 K and with a ground speed of 132 mph  My highest ever (GS), smooth as glass also. Best of all I was (using my new HackMan mixture control along with the new fuel flow indicator and GRT EIS panel) burning all of 3.2 gph at that speed and altitude. My total burn rate for the varied weekend flying was 3.4 gph, that leaner thing really works =D> Big surprise, all you Lyc and Cont pilots are saying about now! So does the auto adjust of the stock Bing Rotax carbs, this device just makes it all better. Anyway, great weekend, and let's hope everyone makes it home OK (crazyIvan in particular, he's a long way from home), at least it looks like great weather right now for him.

That was a hoot!

I can't thank Cory (WilgaBeast) and his team enough for hosting the fly-in this year. These guys did a fantastic job and it showed. The dinner was great and everyone had plenty to eat. A great group of people to hang out with over the weekend.

It was awesome to meet new friends and see old ones. The community we have here is awesome. Evan, you are a trooper and it was great to shake your hand. I can't wait to see your trip report. Also, a big THANK YOU to all the raffle supporters.

The Sat night STOL "contest" was cool to watch. Some great stick and rudder skills on display.

I'll sort through all my pics/vids and try to get something up soon.

The round engine roundup is this weekend in Idaho Falls and they flew out to Smiley Creek for breakfast. Also the Montana Antique Aircraft Assoc had their annual air tour this weekend and went to Smiley today.

AND the Glastar Fly-In was at Smiley Creek this weekend!

My wife and I had a blast this weekend - our first fly-in, but it definitely won't be the last! I'm uploading pics in a few minutes, will post over on the other thread. It was really awesome to meet everyone in person, too!

P.S. - If anyone has any video of my arrival on Friday, I would love to have it! (Red/White Cessna 185, N93010) Still arguing with my dad's Contour+ about when it is "ON" and when it is "OFF" and especially when is it "RECORDING"... **sigh**
