Living (and flying) in the beautiful PNW means being grounded more often than not.
We just cancelled our camp trip to GV this morning, after spending yesterday 1/2 day sitting around with a packed and fueled Maule.
Just before last call cut off time yesterday afternoon we decided to check the enroute wx out live as there was only about 1 hour of wx to deal with and took off. We turned around after only 15min. Visibility was down in rain showers, squashed between airspace and hills, clouds too low for the hilly terrain. Not safe enough for a pleasure trip with friend and dog, both trusting me to flying them safely, not really fun either, too much stress. I realized I have to check out Heidi in the use of all my gadgets so that she can help with pushing buttons, dialing frequencies, finding nearest airports etc. Our way back was blocked by a squall with dense rain, so we landed in Olympia with reasonable marginal VFR and hung out with a fellow Maule pilot who stopped by for a brief visit till the way back to 06WN was VFR. This morning we had another cutoff time so that we don't waste another day with waiting on the wx. Radar showed rain around U88 and OLY was in and out IFR. Ofcourse after we made a no-go decision (my friend Heidrun has to be back for work on Monday and forecast for sunday is now questionable for our part of the state as well) the sun broke through to tease and entice us. But by that time my friend and her dog where on her way home with her camp gear.
Tomorrow morning, if it just looks too good to pass up, I will head out to GV on my own.
I am glad to see all the previous posts of pilots making safe decisions.

Ps I find myself spoiled with 'good wx flying' when flying around VFR. When I used to fly around in northern Germany all this wx was normal as it is in AK.
