Wx still lookin pretty good for Moab area next weekend and the days following, so I been working on the poker run details so ya can plan accordingly.

You can have as many hands as you want, $10 ea. No mixing/matching.

The cards will be in sealed envelops, DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPS UNTIL ASKED SO THAT WE CAN RECORD YOU HAND, OR YOU WILL BE DQ'D

The stops I have planned are:
Overlook/Rustler Canyon,
Happy Canyon,
Dirty Devil,
Horseshoe Canyon, and
Mineral Canyon.

Extra cards at Gateway and Mack Mesa

If you are not comfortable with some of the strips, you don't need to land, but can still get extra card for $5/ea.

The idea is to have a minimum of 5 ,with 2 optional/extra cards. Nothing wild, best 5 cards wins.

These are the basic guide lines, there may be some small changes, but you get the idea.

Hopefully you all have Galen's book/map my now. If not, one of the places you can go to get some info on the strips is the UBCP website.

Re: Caveman Spring Flyin 2011 May 13-15

Either on the night before the poker run, or here on this thread, I think it would be a good idea for someone with current knowledge and experience with each of the poker run strips, to give a briefing of sorts for each. What do you all think? I know some of the info on UBCP can be dated and I'd like some current information. Where I don't have my normal ride and will have the family on board, I need to figure out if they all will be doable or not.

Of the strips, I've only been to Mineral Canyon...and I think it had some work done on it since I was there a few years ago.

Thanks. Looking forward to it.

Hey Russ
I don't expect to need alternative strips. That was why I made the option to buy a card. These strips, with the exception of Ruster, and the upriver end of Mineral are pretty solid dirt. Rustler is probably a little soft for a small tired, tricycle geared planes.

But, you should certainly plan to go to other strips once you are there. I'll be happy to make rcommendations if you are unfamiliar withthe area. That is why I left the morning open, if the weather for the day is good. If there are threatening winds in the afternon, we will do the poker run in the morning. After the gourmet breakfast

The south end of Dirty Devil is pretty sandy/soft and I'm not sure if I'd try it with less than 8.00's. The pucker factor is a little higher on that one too. Very pretty and a fun strip though.

Should be to Caveman by noon on Friday. Plan to spend Thursday night in Elko and have dinner with blackrock. This is going to be fun!

As of today. Monticello has opened their new airport, but does not have fuel. They may have my the time of the flyin, but probly best to call and be sure. 435. 587.2271 Typically fuel is 24 hr self serve, but you have to call the city for info, so 9-5 M-F.

New airport!? You know, as soon as I read that, I thought I remembered something was supposed to happen down there. What all did they do? Weren't they going to build across the road or something like that?

So, how long had Monticello been not open? Airnav says it was last updated on April 12th with self-serve fuel $4.50 per gallon. Bad info? That was one of my fuel stop plans.

Coming from the north, Delta is $4.51, Richfield $4.85, Beaver $4.64. All from Airnav and not verified in person.

Found out the engine for my usual ride won't be put back together. So I'll be in the backup. Good airplane, just not the same performance or XM.

Hey everyone,

I made a couple of phone calls today and here is what I found out.

Huntington's SS price is $4.63 with about 1200 gallons remaining. Monticello's new airport is open and their fuel is $4.50. They are hoping to have the phone line in this week so that the card reader will work. As of right now, the manager has to come out and help you fuel and take your information. The manager told me to call him in a few days for an update. When I find one out, I'll let you all know.

Just make sure to save me some gas please! [-X

Y'all better clean your planes if you want to look as good as mine. Spent 5 hours today washing, waxing, armor all. The M7 is looking plenty sharp.

Rob,

I always like flying around clean airplanes. They attract all the bugs!!! :D

Speaking of bugs everyone, be prepared. I think we may be in for one of the worst bug seasons in southern Utah in years.
Expect mosquitos and lots of biting no-see-ums. We even had skeeters at Ibex last week. First I've seen um there in 20 years!
