Thanks! Lucky...or spoiled...it’s a fine line. But we are trying to keep them level headed.

Grassstrippilot wrote:Thanks! I have the IO-520 in mine as well. I'm not sure what they did with those early 206s in regards to the cargo area. The 205s ends about 8 inches aft of the rear seats. I put an extended cargo area in about a year ago and that made a big difference as well. I carry 85# back there all the time. I was considering a cargo pod, but for now I'm good with the extended baggage area. Maybe as the kids get bigger I'll have to reconsider.

Where are you flying? For work I'm guessing?

The U206 was the same as the 205. When the 206A came out they added 300# extra gross and made the baggage use up that 8" that Cory was talking about.

Our 206 was modified like Cory's but it was not documented. Not sure if I want to open that can of worms or not.

Out of curiousity, what year did they increase the baggage area?

'65 (ours) was U206 and '66 was the U206A. The U206A also has an extra doubler by the rudder peddles.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

This weekend Adam and I went down to the Utah backcountry for the Mexican Mountain work party. I also wanted to get over to Boulder to check out its condition as well as Keg Knoll, both of which are airstrips that I've been working on for the UBCP. The mountains were pretty socked in and made it hard to get over to Mexican Mountain Friday afternoon. We had to fly all the way to the Wayne Wonderland area before we could cross over. But, since we already were that far south, we decided to drop into Boulder while we were in the neighborhood. Then we continued to MM for the night.

The next morning we had a lot (16 planes in all I think) of help show up. We cleaned up the strip and finally got the windsock fixed. The frame was too long so only a little bit of the sock was free to move. So, after a little "frame modification", a new sock was put up and now is a good, functional windsock. Done at MM, 6 of us moved over to Keg Knoll and we spend an hour or so clearing 1000' or so. I'm really excited to get back down there and hike to some nearby arches.

All in all, a great weekend with some great flying and work done!

Continuing the party at Keg Knoll. It's still a little rough but better than it was. We will continue to clear it out as the opportunity permits.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Another fun weekend in the Utah Backcountry. It was the Utah Backcountry Pilot's fly-in at Ibex, so Adam and I loaded the bikes and headed down to spend Friday night. Arriving at the lakebed, we were met by Mark Patey and Jason Sneed. "Want to go get some ice cream?" mark asked. "Follow us!" So, after landing the north landing area, we blasted off for a gas station just over the Nevada border. I always get a kick out of people whose minds are blown when planes are parked where cars normally park. Anyway, it was a great weekend with a good turn out. Adam and I tried sleeping in the plane for the first time and it worked out well.

We had a good turnout. I'm guessing 20-30 aircraft.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Definitely looks like a fun get together. Agree on the gas station flight for ice cream. Thanks for all the photos. By the way, I asked a deputy if he'd have a problem with me landing on the gravel road that goes by my farm buildings. He said he wouldn't but the FAA might. Thinking I will give it a try some day.

Cory, this video was awesome until you were directly overhead.
You need to wipe that belly off more than once a year!

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Did you land on Hwy 6 or the gravel to the south of the gas station. Was by that place with a load of cattle that were loaded just west in the middle of no where. Drove through 6 inches of water for a mile or so on Hwy 6---- the year the Great Salt Lake was flooding.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

We landed on the gravel road out back. Jason said someone got ticketed for landing on the highway..."operating a motorized vehicle that wasn't street worthy" was the crime.

Thanks for sharing Cory. Really makes me itch to get the 206 up and running. Darn customer A/C keeping me busy...

Oh well. We'll get er. Hoping to build a big hangar this fall so I shouldn't complain about having work.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

A couple of clips from some flying Friday evening at the fly-in. A new (to me) cool gas station to visit.

Very cool!!!! To me the gas station is way better than the dry lake bed. Guess if everybody landed at gas stations it wouldn't have the glamour

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

This weekend we made a run down to camp at Keg Knoll. The strip and hike to Colonnade Arch was worthy of its own thread so follow the link for pics and the report on it.
