Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

It’s been a busy summer with too little flying. We did make it up to JC for a quick camping trip in July, and then last week a very quick morning trip up for breakfast. Visited Chamberlain, Cabin Creek and Cougar Ranch. Also flew down the Big Creek drainage to check the other strips.

Another video from last week. A great little strip that opened last year called Cougar Ranch.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Thanks Rob. Not nearly as much flying as I would have liked this summer, but I knew that going into it. Now I’m trying to make up for it. [emoji1]

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

A couple of weeks ago I spent the day showing my sister-in-law and two of her friends the Utah Backcountry. It was another “Man I love this plane” kind of days as we bounced in out of a few strips with 4 adults on board!

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Last Tuesday I spent the day flying one of the recreational planners from the Price district around to see the strips in his district. We flew over almost all the strips and landed at a few. They are very pro what we do and it was a great day of flying. Probably the nicest day I’ve even seen down south. Low 50s and hardly a whisper of a breeze all day. Allen and Stan joined with their plane as well as Ryan Krissman. It was an awesome day of flying.

Cory,
A few posts back with the ID pics there is a pic that says “new strip coming”. What strip is it? Do you have any more info?
Thanks,
Joe

Hey Joe,

Sorry for the late reply. At the time the IAA hadn't announced it and Andrew George asked me to keep it quiet. Since then, they have announced it. It is Mitchell Ranch Strip, near Thomas Creek. Check out the IAA FB page and you'll see a video he just posted showing it from the creek. It is a short, demanding strip that will require some skills/performance to use. It's not officially opened yet...waiting for the FAA ID to be completed, and is now snowed in anyway. Should be opened by next spring.

Mitchell Ranch. Just north of Thomas Creek. Looks like that is Marble Creek it’s on.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

It's been a while since I've posted on this thread. Here are a few updates on some flying that has been done in the last few months, including the UBCP spring fly-in this weekend.

Amazing, the amount of gear you can haul! That'd take me three trips in the S-7S.

Very nice! Looks like you have a nice family. Your flying out there is a world of difference from what we do out here in New England. Looks pretty appealing, especially since we have snow showers in the WX forecast for this coming week.

Thanks for posting. I always enjoy this thread!

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Not much flying going on the last several months between uncertainty in my industry and tightening out belts. Not to mention all the other crap going on. We did make it up to Johnson Creek last week. It was a pleasant surprise to see many familiar faces and to be among a lot of common sense. Although not everyone got to make it that had planned on it, it was a great weekend and I needed it. The ticks were pretty bad so that limited our exploring. Hopefully we will get back up there in August.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

This last week I made it up to Shearer and Fish Lake with Adam for some camping. Fun time. I’ve been wanting to get to these two strips for decades. Also got to stop in on a friend’s private strip and check it out.Image
