Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

A great looking plane Cory, I'm so glad it all came together for you. No doubt a IO-520 205 is a wonderful choice for your wonderful mission.

I'll take that as a compliment. So thank you. =D>

+1. Beautiful plane and it looks to be in great shape with a darn good pedigree history to boot. I think the blue and white make a lot of people think of beautiful blue skies and pristine white snow. Great colors.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Thanks everyone. When I did the title search, I found out some cool history. It was a short search.

The plane was purchased in early 1963 from Cessna by a broker at my home field, Ogden, UT. They had it for a month before selling it to a place in Provo, UT. They owned it for 13 months. They then sold it to the Santa Rosa Flying Club in Sonoma, California in 1964 where it has been for the last 52 years. I'm now the 4th owner in its 53 years of existence.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Cory,

I too, really like the color and scheme. A 520 in that airplane will make a great back country hauler for you and the family.

Best wishes and many safe and happy flying hours to you and your family.

Thanks Kurt! I'm looking forward to resuming our normal activities once it's squared away. I'm bummed that the AK trip had to be postponed to next year, but I can't complain. I'm just happy to be back in the game this quickly with a good plane.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

After 2.5 week of only seeing the new plane 3 times and not getting to fly it once, I finally got out to get some more time in it. Joining me was my friend that was in my little mishap with me. He's either very trusting or a slow learner. Seriously though, it's nice to have friends like him and Allen that didn't blink at flying with me again. It was a nice day to get some landings in and get some more time in the plane. With our gear in the back, it lands nicer but definitely feels loose at slow speeds. I think the VGs are going to have to go back on sooner than later. For now though, a little extra speed helps. The extra power is noticeable and I like it!

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Another beautiful day and a chance to become more acquainted with my new ride. We made a fuel run to EVW. Loved the way it climbed out with a DA of 8,000' and full of fuel. We skirted a few showers to get home. All in all, 2.5 hours of flying.
