Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Hehe! At first that's what I thought, then I figured there are two Adams in his class. I asked him about it yesterday and apparently it corresponds to the number of his cubby hole at school or something.

Quick flight today to do some landings and verify some speed numbers. Then back to the hangar to tear into the next project! More pics tomorrow when it's done.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

And done! That was an interesting process and I'm really excited to try it out. Unfortunately, it will have to wait a week until I get back from work. [emoji35] As my mechanic said, "Well that certainly changed the character of that plane. That looks bad ass!"

I owe a huge thanks to some BCP brothers that helped me save some money on tires. Dudestickle, UH-60 & C180, and Cervelorod thank you once again for your generosity and help! And thanks to the others that offered too.

I went with the 8.00 on the nose and 8.50 on the mains.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

That did come out bad ass. The attitude looks just right with that combination of tire sizes.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

First camping trip of the season and the first in our new plane. We filled it up with more than we needed just to see how it handled then blasted off for Ibex in central Utah. Allen Macbean joined us after dodging some cells and soon we were on the playa. Ends up there is some sort of mini burning man that goes on every year here and they were constructing the tower on the south end of the island. When we landed, we were informed that there could be 600+ there Saturday night. Good thing we were only staying one night. It was still the busiest I've ever seen it.

We set up camp and had a great evening flight after dinner and a short hike. Unfortunately my older drift camera malfunctioned and I didn't catch it. I used my old one because I was testing a newly placed camera mount. Mount adhered fine, but the camera had issues.

The next morning I cooked breakfast while Dee went and knocked out a quick 6 miles around part of the lakebed. Before long, we had some visitors. PittsDriver showed up in his 180 and Jason Sneed and Mark Patey showed up. It was good to see a few more planes come in. They attracted a lot of attention. People thought it was really cool seeing them there. Anyway, great quick camping trip to kick the summer off right!

Packed and all ready to go!

Great place for remote controlled cars. Santa brought this one to Adam. It does 42mph. There was a dog that went nuts chasing it and Tyler, our youngest was chasing the dog. It was a sight!

When Allen took Adam for a ride, Tyler asked if I'd take him for a ride so he could drive. How could I say no!?

Kind of hard to see, but we found a decent sized scorpion while breaking camp.

The kids loved seeing Chuck again and smothered him with attention.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Last weekend we flew up to McCall, Idaho for a 40 mile race Dee was running. We rented a car from the FBO and spent Friday afternoon enjoying McCall. I really hadn't been there in 17 years when I flew smoke jumpers for the season. It was fun to be back. I really enjoyed taking kids to the jumper base and taking them on a tour of the base and planes. We had some great burgers at My Father's Place and spent some time down at the lake.

The next morning, Dee started her race and I loaded the kids up to fly over to Big Creek for some breakfast. The new lodge is huge and going to be really nice when hey are done with it. It was great to be back with the kids.

On the way back, we stopped in to Johnson Creek to let the kids throw some rocks into the creek...a tradition we've been doing for 9 years now. Right before we left, a group of BCP friends caught us and it was great to catch up.

Then the afternoon kind of went downhill. On takeoff I had a rough running engine and I made a precautionary 180 back to land. I am very thankful for good friends that spent the afternoon helping me troubleshoot the issue. Even had one fellow 205 driver offer me his plane to get us back to McCall and another friend take Tyler and escort me back to make sure we made it safe. They also helped entertain and look after my kids while we worked on the plane. A huge thanks to Ryan Krissman, Daniel Mccreery, Alex Wells, Scott (I don't remember his last name) and Ryan's friend Allen. Ends up it was a fouled plugs and it ran fine getting home. We are now troubleshooting the underlying cause. Anyway, very thankful for good friends who were there to help and that I was at JC and not someplace more remote. Also really glad I had tools with me!

We cut out trip short to get the plane back so we could check the engine out. Despite the stressful afternoon at JC, it was still an enjoyable trip and I was happy to get a little backcountry flying in.

Over City of Rocks, Idaho on our way up.

Not enough of this has happened this summer. Adam and I met up with Allen for some evening flying around the Great Salt Lake. It was some great flying on a beautiful evening.
