Unstable early winter weather pattern moving into North Central Idaho starting Saturday and lasting for 5 days at least. I am a scratch. #-o

It was great meeting some of you guys in Minden this morning. Unfortunately the Forest Service has throw the usual monkey wrench in my plans and is moving us to Weaverville CA. You guys have fun out there at the Fly-in.

Can't get past western NM or Az due to weather. Might try again Friday morning but not looking to good. Flying locally is great though.

Re: High Sierra Fly-in, INFO - 2014 - UPDATED 10/3

After going round and round trying different ways of loading the northern nevada waypoint file, I managed to "easily" do it as follows.

did a google search for kml to gpx online and found kml2gpx.com/

then saved the file to computer. Opened Garmin Mapsource and imported the gpx file which opened all the waypoints on mapsource.

Transferred the waypoints to my 796.

Done.

Note, before using Mapsource I tried all manner of other ways, including "EasyGPS" and others. No joy. Mapsource was easy.

Bumper, have you downloaded Garmin Basecamp? It's the product that officially superseded Mapsource. I was able to open the .kml I have included on here and send it to my 496 in about 15 seconds.

Re: High Sierra Fly-in, INFO - 2014 - UPDATED 10/3

Ummm, now that you mention it, I do have BaseCamp on my computer - - I'd just forgotten it was there :c( it's an age thing). I'd used MapSource for so long that I was stuck in that rut, even though it's not all that workable on a touch screen and woefully outdated. Guess I better get with the times (again).

I'm still trying to bring myself to forgive Garmin for taking away the logbook program functionality with the 796 that let us download our flights from the GPS.

My experience is only with the 496, but I have enjoyed pulling my flight tracks off in the past. Basecamp makes it pretty easy. I don't recall if they come with the time elapsed data or not though, like the flight log shows it. Let's start a new thread on GPS data management...

Re: High Sierra Fly-in, INFO - 2014 - UPDATED 10/3

Well if there was an award for the shortest time spent at the fly-in, I would've taken home the trophy today #-o
Had to come back home for work Friday...somebody's got to keep your salads bug and disease free

Got a late start this morning due to the damn fog, headed out about 9:30...220SM to 3SGS IN 1.6hrs. with little turb...not bad for the ole wagon. A few miles out I heard RobW56 and Piperpainter on the radio out playing around. I think there was 9 campsites setup when I arrived, and by the time I left about 4:45 there was at least 20 planes there.

Weather could not have been much better...hopefully that continues for you guys the rest of the weekend [-o<

Anyway, I'm glad I got to experience at least a little bit of the fly-in, and meet some of the folks behind the BCP names!! Thanks to Kevin for hooking me up with a shirt even though I technically didn't "earn" it :D

Not what I wanted to wake up to...it was much darker when I actually wanted to leave!

Upon arrival to 3SGS...

Fly-by from Rob, with a plug for Kevin's biz

GPTC and TomW arriving in style...

Hopefully I'll be able to stay more than 6 hours next year

...and sorry for the shitty pics, must've touched my iPhone lens with my breakfast burrito grease stained fingers...had to eat something while waiting out the fog

That makes two of us, had virga this AM hanging down right over my departure path, the high pressure is officially over up here, my main concern would be Sunday's flight home, high winds projected. Wish I could make it, but that don't make it so, I'll feel lots better when Sunday's WX re affirms my decision to scratch it. Too damn bad though, I got the new Catto prop in, and on the plane, yesterday. Have fun you guys, fly safe.
