This was a number of summers ago that I was chasing him down a river valley. He passed away in an accident a few years ago. Today I flew the same path with his son who was flying his plane. It was a bit emotional for me. But a great way to spend Christmas eve, a couple hrs seat time with 2 other friends and good friends. Then the afternoon with my wife and kids. Capping it all off with some great dessert and the best Christmas movie ever, Die Hard!

Merry Christmas Zane. This is a great "family" of aviators you have brought together with your personality, talent, and hard work!

Thanks for the kind words everybody. I'm very thankful because it doesn't mean much without some good company.

Re: Merry Christmas, my friends (2020)

A belated "Merry Christmas" to you, Zane, and to all my BCP brothers and sisters.

Zane, you have no idea how jealous I am of your Christmas dinner... My wife and I spent the holidays with my daughter and her family – all of whom are vegan... So no delicious rib roast, turkey, ham, or any other "real" food for this "meat and potatoes" guy. We had "popcorn tofu" (yes, it's as bad as it sounds), mashed potatoes (made with soy milk and vegan "butter" - some kind of soy-based oleo spread), green beans, and sourdough bread with more vegan butter. Fortunately, they also had bananas, strawberries, and some other fruit so no one went hungry. LOL

But the food isn't really the most important part of Christmas gatherings. It's being with friends and family, enjoying the Christmas traditions and soaking in the excitement and fun the grandkids are having! This year, my youngest grandson immediately latched onto me and was either in my lap, or sitting next to me, or dragging me to go play "outside" with him. Oh, and every 10 minutes, he asked to see pictures of my airplane again... This one will be the next (possibly only other?) pilot in the family! I can't wait to take him flying!

Given the year we've all just muddled thru it's ALL about family, I take nothing for granted anymore.

Your 2020 finale sounds terrifying. Haha... Sounds like you're a good sport about it.

Cute story about your grandson. Having a wee one latch onto you is one of the joys in life...until they don't detach. Ever. Want to sleep? Kids don't allow that. My daughters expressly forbid me sleeping if they are awake. Want some bathroom privacy? Forget it. Need to focus on work? "Daddy let me type your letters for you." Dumb enough to try drinking an open mug of coffee while sitting down? We know how that goes.

Need to buck a rivet? "Daddy let me hold the bucking bar for you." Oh wait, maybe this is a good thing. 8) I've gotten better at tuning out screaming and focusing amid chaos. I hope I live long enough to be a grandparent because that seems like the best deal. You can hand them off at the end of the day.

Typed this reply with my left thumb while my 3 year old tried to commandeer my phone, cup of coffee survived.

Hey you and your wife were smart enough to have them pretty close together so you won’t be ancient when it’s time to send them away. My two are 12 years apart and most days I’d put the second one back if I could. [emoji1]

This place is a refuge in troubled times and when it's IFR and my favorite backcountry strips are covered in snow. I'm not a big contributor, but I am a big consumer of what is offered here. I just made my annual donation 'cause that's the most sincere form of thanks. I see most of the commenters on this thread are also contributors helping keep this engine running. Good on ya! Thanks again Zane
