Re: OregonMaule Destinations: SOCAL

I wonder what that passenger knows about Rob………. He is the hero of the Yucca Valley School district after giving some of the kids rides in his Maule.

Top of Goat Mt with Rob and Dave and his wife. Way in the background you can see Giant Rock and the strip from the old airport. Lots of history there, including the German guy that used to live under the rock there the sheriffs came to talk to and was blown up with dynamite (in the 40's), the UFO people that would show up in the 60's because of the 3 UFOs that showed up (lenticular clouds, I remember seeing the picture way back then and said it was clouds then as a kid), the nearby Integratron built as directed by Venusians that would serve as a time and rejuvenation machine (you can rent time in there now for a "sound bath", it lost some credibility when the builder died of cancer.

In the far right you can see Little Bagdad from 29 Palms Marine base, site of some pretty spectacular night shows and window rattling booms during war games.

Re: OregonMaule Destinations: SOCAL

Great flight over to Arizona. The Deer Valley airport was a zoo. I had to wait 5+ minutes outside class D for my turn. They use two tower frequencies for two runways. They had 4 in in the pattern for each runway and 1-2 waiting to get into the pattern. Loosing your voice is a work injury for sure. I read there is like 800 planes based there.

Made it out to Barrett Jackson. The prices were unbelievable low. We will see what the high dollar stuff does Friday Saturday.

Question. Is it ok to fly over the canyon as long as I'm over 8000?

Re: OregonMaule Destinations: SOCAL

Rob, you'll need to be at or above 9,000 by the end to clear the Diamond Creek Sector the way I read that map.

Cheers,
Mike

Re: OregonMaule Destinations: Local for awhile

We are going to get a couple of those very rare February days in Oregon, it will be approaching 70 on the Oregon coast with light winds. It just so happens I remembered I have to take the Jeep out and run the engine. Not good to let them sit.

If anybody's out flying around I'll be at Pacific City Monday and Tuesday. Stop by and say hi or get lunch coffee whatever. Image

OregonMaule Destinations: Local for awhile

Got quite the beautiful day going on here. Had a little bit excitement, Cessna 182 with a blown tire blocking part of the runway. Had to do an S turn over the grass and come back the runway still had 900 feet left and it was no problem. Spent a couple hours helping him tow it off the runway and taking the wheel pant off. Then Graham came over from McMinnville with the spare tire and installed it so the young fella could fly home.
