My sister and brother & I all got the camera bug from my Dad. Problem is storing all the RAW... Keeping Seagate and G-Raid in business...

BRD: Is RAW really that much of an advantage over JPEG? What editing software do you use?

Re: Photo Thread: Summer 2014 Float Flying

oh absolutely! Use RAW when you can for editing. .jpg compression has just too little information in the image and when you go to process them, any subtle changes are hard to make without wrecking things. Like the difference between dropping a tennis ball and a super ball. :D
I generally process through Bridge first and then Photoshop.

+1

Especially considering that USB drives are like $50 per terabyte. Shooting raw for every photo you take still costs about a thousand times less (seriously, not exaggerating for effect) than shooting film 20 years ago.

They are some great photos guys!!

Looks like your all having a great summer in the northern hemisphere! 8)

Thought i'd post this short video clip I've been playing around with. I shot the footage from an afternoons trip out with my friends float operation here in NZ. Apologies for the promo look, but I did that in case he was keen to use it sometime,
I hope you guys just enjoy the footage! :D

Enjoy the rest of your summer floating!

Rob

Hooked up with our friends with a ski boat! Gas attendant at marina said we were the first float plane he had seen all season!

What a view!

Made it back to the hangar, and they replied that the thunder was starting!

John,

Stellar :D Been overhead but, never set down. The cliffs look pretty steep

Did you jump in the water? I was at Green Peter Lake, last month, and it 70F. Nice to take swim.

Flying into the Genesee river, to pick up a passenger arriving at the adjacent Rochester airport. Saved the 1 1/2 hour drive, and had a lot of fun. The controllers were very cooperative

Re: Photo Thread: Summer 2014 Float Flying

This is a fun thread!

Little John, I would have loved to see you land and take off at the cove! We go there a lot but I was working the day you came. And the thunder was pretty impressive that afternoon!

Aqua, cool video! I can picture the conversation going something like this: "Just head out of the main terminal, turn right and walk down to the river bank. I'll pick you up in my airplane under the bridge". How totally awesome is that!

And salmon fishing, and boating... Too much fun!

This morning I helped out a fellow aviator who needed a lift to his summer house to pick up his 185. Here are a few pics...

His 17th century (!) cabin

Another view
