Re: Photo Thread: Summer 2014 Float Flying

Hitched a one way ride up a river in August. Even got to keep the nose pointed in one direction for about half an hour too. Made my 14 day river trip a success before I stepped foot in the raft.

One of those perfect July days on Tahoe when the wind and waves never picked up. Of course, by afternoon the DA was around 9,000'!

Taken from Brian's(Adventure Seaplanes) 180 on Aerocets. First is flying over Wipline's airstrip in the Mississippi and the rest are where the St. Croix and the Mississippi come together. Notice all the farmland in the Mississippi's water.

Nice, Marty!

The same thing happens a lot lower down, where the Ohio meets the Mississippi. The stripe as the two bodies of water mix isn't as clear as what you're seeing in your pic, though!

I've been drooling for the last couple of months since Brian posted on SPA about bringing the Beaver down from Kodiak. There was simply no way for me to make the commitment, though! #-o #-o

Some day...

Re: Photo Thread: Summer 2014 Float Flying

Wow. There are some gorgeous photos here guys.

It's a completely different ball game flying on floats. Here in South Africa floats are "outlawed" since our CAA and Dept. of Water Affairs believes that floatplanes would spread water hyacinth between open lakes and dams.

As far as I am aware, there is 1 small LSA floatplane, a Searay I think, but it has so many restrictions on actually landing on water it's pointless.

Maybe one day I can do a float rating just for the experience.

Flying floats is not difficult, but beware... you'll want to move out'a Africa!

Re: Photo Thread: Summer 2014 Float Flying

Here's a few from my summer wages over the last few years. Never seems to get old. First is a Beech 18, by far the finest floatplane there is.

Turbo Beaver (-27). Great machine, if someone else is buying the fuel.

My 180.

Turbo Otter (Walter, 751 HP. Awesome machine.)

First Beech is a "C" model, excellent performer. 145-150 mph on floats all day long. Closest is a "D", workhorse. Not as fast but I like it better than the C.

Re: Photo Thread: Summer 2014 Float Flying

Made my dream come true this year. Bought a little love shack with 80 feet of shorefront on Lake Almanor, northern California. Installed an L shaped EZ dock and I now sit on my deck and just gaze at my amphib and grin!

That looks incredible Pierre! Had a blast talking to you at TRK the other day. Watch the winds on that lake...I have been airborne on an 18 ft SolCat there more than once.
