Re: Photo Thread: Float Flying

You need a lab or golden sitting on that dock, preferably with a young child with a fishing pole, that would make it complete.

Yee haw! Made it in the nick of time. It’s almost November. Now what?

140Mike will be stoked to see it. Did you have to add the float kit reinforcements to it? Is that was took time?

The gentleman I got the floats from had all the float kit info except the external doubler aft of the gear box.

I had to fab the fittings inside the fuse from 4930 from Cessna drawings and one nice sketch.

To be honest, I was quite surprised the floats actually bolted right up without too much fussing around.

One up and half fuel she pretty much jumped out of the water, you know, once I figure out my site picture, found the sweet spot, and stoped hopping on the bows. First floatplane I’ve flown without flaps ;)

Project went long because I have a reoccurring lung infection issue that is trying it’s best to kill me… it became a personal challenge to fly this girl on floats at least once this fall before freeze up, even if it killed me!

Any port in a storm!

Got in another 1.0 yesterday and a handful of splashes, not as graceful as the first two flights, taxiing back to the dock I realized I was trying too hard and I let a little of my PA22-160S muscle memory creep in.

Image

Woke up to this, it’s already melting off. When I had the floats loaded on the truck in Talkeetna a few months ago I told myself I was going to fly her on my birthday, like I always did… Today is the day.

When I started this adventure I called it Racing the Ice, this morning it’s Melting the Snow!

Re: Photo Thread: Float Flying

Not faulting, but a couple of those are old shots. The Beaver in the background (31357) will be waiting longer than “float season”. It formerly belonged to a fellow F-16 pilot. He sold it back in 2007. I believe it crashed departing Lake Hood in 2022 registered as 9776R.
