Re: Spring Utah Fly-in Pt 2 (April 30-May 2)

Is the UBCP fly-in still taking place that same weekend over at Ibex? Might make for a good day run to run over and say "hi". If anyone has details on it, please post.

Looks like IBEX dry lake is just off my course. So I'll have to drop and plop for a photo op. I is a poet, don't you know it. #-o

Re: Spring Utah Fly-in Pt 2 (April 30-May 2)

From UBCP
This is the traditional Utah spring fly in. In good weather, the Ibex "Hard Pan" is suitable for most airplanes. UBCP will provide hamburgers and hot dogs for a noon time lunch on Saturday. It is traditional to bring a pot luck item to share if you like. Everyone is welcome. Fly in or drive in. We will congregate as always near the rocky island toward the north edge of the old lake bed. Ibex is no fun in the wind due to the dust, and we would suggest gathering only if conditions are good. Call the UBCP Hot Line for updates as the date approaches. We will try to get a scout to scope out the conditions down there prior to the May 7 week end.

Re: Spring Utah Fly-in Pt 2 (April 30-May 2)

Good work Rob! That might be a good Saturday lunch option.

Good find on the fuel in Fillmore too. Fond memories of that place. I spent 3 day/2 nights waiting out a snow storm there during college. 11" of snow later and after spending both nights on their couch in the FBO, walking down to McDonalds for food and TWC updates, burning my coat on their preheater trying to get it to work, and finally using dryer hosing + the lady's truck to heat the engine to get it started, we were able to launch for OGD. A pain at the time, but great memories now.

Here is a shot at Ibex a few years ago with the 140. Cool place. If the Utah Backcountry Pilots are there it would be a cool place for a stop.

While I like Fillmore, currently down the road 46nm in Beaver (U52) fuel is 3.70 a gallon and has been for some time. As I understand it's managed by pilots who really try to keep the cost down. If it's on your way...

They currently have UHP's requiring all drivers to slow down to 45mph on I-70 near Moab. Wind gusts up to 70mph this morning.

Re: Spring Utah Fly-in Pt 2 (New and improved dates May 7-9)

yeah I'm out for next weekend too...this makes two years in a row... Got an 89 year old mother in law who we have to visit on Sat and stay the night for mothers day activities on Sunday. I totally forgot about mothers day but I would NEVER admit it to my wife....I just bit my tongue and mentally watched southern Utah fade into the distant reaches of my mind...and I was pretty well ready to go this weekend... Had all the camping gear on the floor of the hangar next to the cargo door...OH well maybe I can fenagle, I hope thats the right spelling, a trip later on in the spring...I don't feel too bad cause there's a couple of get togethers coming up later this spring and summer... I won't make the Fly in at JC this year but I;m hoping to get in my usual 10 days in Idaho . If it isn't the weather it's family... OH well such is life... You all have a ball and thanks again Gary.. See ya soon... I'll talk to you about our visit to your neck of the woods in June. Hopefully we can score a ride on the train to Silverton.... #-o
