Does the IO360 have the counter weight arrangement specifications for specific propellers? When I was building my IO520...I spent nearly three hours researching Continental specifications at Alaska Aircraft engine on Merrill Field. Took a while to find what I was looking for...a counterweight arrangement without any RPM restrictions for my propeller. Can operate at any RPM under 2700 and up to 2850 for five minutes. May install Insights engine monitor that includes a vibration sensor. Wondering if an Insight engine monitor is on your list of must have instruments?

Mark, There are only 2 counterweight arrangements on the IO360 and both can accept an 82" C203 prop with no rpm restrictions. The field approvals for 84" and 86" didn't add any additional rpm restrictions. I don't plan to add any vibrations sensors.

Glad you are getting to look one over and are liking it.

Thanks Whee! It's gonna be a fun one. Pretty much local and a really great Father/Son builder/owners.
What do you figure your empty weight will be?

I wouldn't dare guess. Originally I wanted a fairly light empty weight of 1350ish. The addition of seaplane doors, a skylight, large rear windows, L-track to mount the seats, a 5th seat and too much paint means it isn't going to be light. I'm hoping to be around 1500lbs.

We should start a Whee's Bearhawk pool where we put money down on what we think the weight will be.
Closest number wins with 50% going to BCP

HA! You guys seem to think I'll be weighing this thing soon  I'll tell you what, if there is some interest in doing a pool I'll start a thread and post pics so everyone can get a good look at the plane but we should wait till it is closer to weigh in time. Hopefully just a few weeks out.

I'm game with split the pot with BCP. But... like you said, you need to post really good pictures, right before you weigh it, and keep it to yourself for a week so we can all chime in.

Well, that's my opinion anyway, what does everybody else think? Seems like we do this every year with the akairmen cub.

Ya that sounds good to me. Does whee get any of it?
Maybe I'll have to do the same with my 206 when weighing time comes...

No, whee doesn’t get any. If we do it half to BCP and half to the winner.

Re: Whee's Bearhawk Project...progress.

While waiting on some stuff for the engine my dad sewed the seat upholstery. This was his first attempt at such a project but I'm very happy with how they turned out. Someday we will install some lighting in our hangar...

That's a lot of seats! Kind of puts the size of the BH into perspective for me.

Minor suggestion...pull the rear bench seat out when you license/register it. License it as a 4-place. Insurance higher as a 6-place.

That would be fine if he never planned to install the seats or carry pax in them. If he were to take this suggestion to save a few bucks, and anything were to happen with someone in one of those seats, he’d be uninsured.

Same boat here. Never realized the Bearhawk was that big!

Re: Whee's Bearhawk Project...progress.

A BH is basically the same size at a Maule. Not all that big. Here’s an overlay of a BH on top of a M5.

I’ll be having the plane certified and insured as a 4-place. When we near the end of phase 1 I’ll make a log entry to make it a 5-place and have it insured as such.
