I’ll be having the plane certified and insured as a 4-place. When we near the end of phase 1 I’ll make a log entry to make it a 5-place and have it insured as such.

Next stupid question: Is the BH the light lines or the dark lines?

I'd say the darker lines as a guess

No. That overlay was done by another builder and I think he added the dorsal.

Actual, that's a good question - the new go-fast xcub has one for directional stability...

From my limited experience the BH doesn’t have a need for additional directional stability. I wonder if the builder that did the overly had plans to install floats.

Educate me... what would be the purpose of registering it with fewer seats? In Idaho at least the registration fee is calculated from gross weight so not sure what I am missing.

Re: Whee's Bearhawk Project...progress.

Fewer seats means less potential liability/payout for insurance, so that is where the cost savings is. Don't think there's much difference in registration.

Re: Whee's Bearhawk Project...let`s see what she weighs!

Today we put her on the scales! I've been looking forward to this day for a long time. I've been pretty worried about how much overweight it was going to be because of the bigger windows, skylight, full plexi doors, and too many layers of paint.

Hangar is too crowded and messy for in process pics. Sorry. But I did roller it outside later in the day for a quick photo op.

We will weigh it again in the near future after we decide if we want carpet, add any decals to the exterior, etc.

Re: Whee's Bearhawk Project...let`s see what she weighs!

Sorry guys, I was pretty excited yesterday but I hadn't yet decided if we should do a weight guessing pool with a split pot to benefit BCP. We hadn't had the plane out of the hangar for a while and I was pretty pleased with how it looks and wanted to share

akschu wrote:Split the pot? I’ll put $20 on 1471lbs

No, I don't think so. I don't think there is enough interest to make it worth the hassle.

I'll probably add cowl flaps before the first flight but otherwise the only thing that wasn't on the plane that should have been is the N number. I don't think a couple ounces of vinyl will through the weight off too much. The covers missing in the photo were on the plane during the weigh in.

Each tank had unusable fuel (1.5gal) and the engine was filled with oil (10qts).

Weighing was done using calibrated race car scales.
