Re: Where did you fly today?

GT,

You're close. I am using that fancy Imageflow thing, so to get the proper URL for embedding, do this:

1. Click the thumbnail of the image you want to embed, a large version pops up.
2. Click the purple "Bb" icon, and highlight/copy/paste the URL from the top text area.
3. Paste it into your post.

It will look something like this:
Code: Select all
[url=http://www.backcountrypilot.org/gallery/albums/userpics/12167/Over_the_AK_Range.JPG][IMG]http://www.backcountrypilot.org/gallery/albums/userpics/12167/normal_Over_the_AK_Range.JPG[/IMG][/url]

The URL tag surrounding the IMG tag will make it so that the photo is a link, and the large size will open when the medium size is clicked. You can recognize the medium/intermediate image size because the filename is prefixed by "normal_" if it has been downsized by the gallery.

That code results in this:

Image

There IS a bug in the software, where if your image was not large enough to have a medium size regenerated, then no "normal_" version exists, and you will get the error "The dimensions of your image could not be determined" which is the forum's way of saying it can't find that URL.

Well that worked so far
Woops, got that message about not determining dimensions.
Do I need to down load the really big jpgs? I have been downsizing them so I can use the slow system that I am on with starband.
Z thanks for trying to teach us comp. ilit's.

I downsize all my personal pics to 1024x768 or 1280x1024 pixels for web sharing. It's big enough that someone can use it for a desktop wallpaper, or see some detail, but not so big that it chokes the dialup guys. That should make them small enough for easy Starband uploads too. Set quality to 75%.

Re: Where did you fly today?

This weekend flew to NIzina's neighborhood. Spent the night in McCarthy, Alaska at Ma Johnson's Hotel, then this morning flew up the Nizina Glacier and then to the Russell Glacier via Skolai Creek. Nice flight back home to McKinley Park from McCarthy two hours fifteen minutes enroute.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Troutdale, Oregon to Hood River to Sunriver. Sunriver is a high end resort. It is worth your time if you are in the area. I will be here till Monday with my family.

Saturday we are going to fly down to the Cowboy Dinner Tree if that plan comes together.

At Sunriver you can bike, hike, fish, float the river, white water raft, golf, shop, eat, hot tub, tennis, fly, cable tv, hi speed wifi and be lazy. Johnson Creek it is not.

I prefer the Idaho backcountry but I have to keep the wife happy so I can go fly the south west in September.

Cheers...Rob

Nice Rob, it's nice to see someone fly so much and get the full use out of their airplane.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Well, "where" I flew - O69 (Petaluma); KDVO (Gnoss Field); Schellville-Sonoma (0Q3); and Sonoma Skypark (0Q9) isn't the big deal - I got my TW endorsement today. Made my first landings in the grass at 0Q3 and more at 0Q9 too (Mowed star thistle, actually). It was hot today (95+F in the Bay Area  ), and the little J-3 cub was doing her best to make 400'-500' AGL by the time we got all the way around and abeam the numbers, but it was probably the best day I have ever had flying. The taxi work still frustrates me as I think I am jabbing the brakes alot more than I should have to (must be nosewheel disease), but there is a real sense of accomplishment starting the day as a train wreck and finishing out making some "acceptable" landings by the end of the day. Definitely not greasers, but my fillings are still intact.

Re: Where did you fly today?

My last trip - Oshkosh! Two Bonanzas, 7 guys and 3500 miles of flying. From Chino, CA , along the southern route to OSH and back through Utah. Amazing scenery near Provo and I wanted a Helio Courier soooo bad to explore the mountains.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Well guys, I skipped Oshkosh this year to fly to Idaho from Florida. Yes that is a long way in a 95 mph Highlander, but it was worth it. I wanted to see what all the fuse was about and had a great time landing the hot spots. We started Sunday morning (Aug2nd) in Garden Valley where we camped with some friends from "Top Flyers" out of Nampa. The list goes something like this Sulphur Creek, Indian Creek, Thomas Creek, Lower Loon, Soldier Bar, Cabin Creek, Vines, Mile Hi, Dewey Moore, Johnson Creek for a pit stop then back to Garden Valley to collect the camping gear and my dog. The guy baby sitting my pooch made it clear if I didn't get back he was keeping the dog. LOL She is the best damn dog ever. :D I didn't take as many pictures as I should have, but I do have a slide show at the following link and Taildrgfun has promised to publish a video of my landing at Mile Hi. =D>
The Highlander makes it look easy. Well it could be the incredible pilot, but who knows.

If your not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Lynn, sounds like fun. When are you headed back? Greg and I, along with some super cub guys, are planning some "Ohio Bush Plane" action this weekend in eastern Ohio, and maybe ending up in West Virginia????

I am in Florida already, I need to work tomorrow. I am planning to get some bigger tires on my bird and head your way in late Sept. :D

Re: Where did you fly today?

Monday was finally a good day to fly! With the Smoke and wind we have been having, it's been hard to get in the air. My 7 yr old granddaughter is spending the summer with me. So Monday we hopped in the Sportsman and went for a cruise! We flew from Salcha Ak to Tok, Ak than to Chicken Ak to check on the on-going Caribou hunt. Landed at Chicken and we strolled into town and got a candy bar at Chicken Gold Co. Than back in the air and off to Tok again. Re-fuled there and followed the highway to Delta Junction. Saw a big herd of Buffalo in a clearing so I low flew them so the granddaughter could get a good look at them. Than off to Salcha (Home). 4.5 hours of flying and the granddaughter said she had a great time. She kept asking me " How high are we? How high are we now? It looks like were getting higher? " What a neat kid! She is just pure joy to be around. Air was smooth, but we did hit a couple a rain squalls I couldn't avoid. And what a good day to be right on the money with my landings  I guess you really can slide them right on when it counts. I really concentrated on them because I didn't want her to have a bad experience. Even I never felt the plane touch down  I was a proud grandpa all around!
We also saw 4 or 5 Moose and a small herd of Caribou.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Highroad,

I have the Goodyear 26" and they are just a little to firm for the ruff conditions in the mountain country, so I will be buying the AK Airstreak 29's this fall. I like the goodyears on soft sand and wet grass, but the rocky surface puts a lot of shock thru to the airframe. Plus the directional control is more solid in the Airstreak. I am 3 mph faster with the 26" but it will be worth the upgrade overall.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I gotta catch up on my trips since I picked up the Skywagon. I was waiting awhile to try not to jinx myself but, I'm feeling pretty comfy now. I cleared my schedule last month and have been flying consistently. So here it goes:

Durango to Pennsylvania and back. Highlights include, a cool plane museum and grass strip in Marshal Missouri, the Piper museum in Lock Haven, PA and flying through New York class Bravo on the way to landing 10 feet from the ocean in Fishers Island, NY. Then it was back to CO for a week and then the big trip. Durango to Oshkosh, wow that was cool, then up across the border at the Soo then across to visit friends near North Bay, Ontario, then down to Quebec City for a little European vacation with the wife, then home.

I'm looking at my log book and in 6 weeks I have 100 hours of C185 time. The plane is amazing and I finally feel like I am ahead of it in most conditions. Time to start working on landing short so I can get off the pavement. :D
