Durango Rebel wrote:I gotta catch up on my trips since I picked up the Skywagon. I was waiting awhile to try not to jinx myself but, I'm feeling pretty comfy now. I cleared my schedule last month and have been flying consistently. So here it goes:

Durango to Pennsylvania and back. Highlights include, a cool plane museum and grass strip in Marshal Missouri, the Piper museum in Lock Haven, PA and flying through New York class Bravo on the way to landing 10 feet from the ocean in Fishers Island, NY. Then it was back to CO for a week and then the big trip. Durango to Oshkosh, wow that was cool, then up across the border at the Soo then across to visit friends near North Bay, Ontario, then down to Quebec City for a little European vacation with the wife, then home.

I'm looking at my log book and in 6 weeks I have 100 hours of C185 time. The plane is amazing and I finally feel like I am ahead of it in most conditions. Time to start working on landing short so I can get off the pavement. :D

Way to go Brad. Good to see you at OSH and meet your better half. Maybe I'll see you in September.

Cheers...Rob

Saturday we are going to fly down to the Cowboy Dinner Tree if that plan comes together.

At Sunriver you can bike, hike, fish, float the river, white water raft, golf, shop, eat, hot tub, tennis, fly, cable tv, hi speed wifi and be lazy. Johnson Creek it is not.

I prefer the Idaho backcountry but I have to keep the wife happy so I can go fly the south west in September.

Cheers...Rob

Re: Where did you fly today?

Me and my son flew from Troutdale Oregon to Olympia Washington. The wx was just barely VFR with some scud and rain to make it interesting. We got a courtesy at Glacier Aviation and drove to the Cabelas store in Lacey, about 10 miles. We ate lunch at the Cabelas restaurant. Ostrich and Elk sandwich's.

I got a new 10X10 tent and some odds and ends.

On the way back we found a nice sand bar on the Washington side of the Columbia River, so we did what any self respecting BCP would do.

Hey Rob, did you eat all that steak. I see your wife brought out leftovers. That place is awesome! We stop in there while hunting or riding and warm up left overs in tinfoil on engines the next day. I don't think I have ever seen anyone finish their plate.
A flask of tequila goes reeeeaally good with their pink lemonade :D .

ha ha I had chicken also. My brother-n-law had the steak. I sat my chicken down. I guess the wife was afraid to let go of her chicken.

It was great meeting you and Matt. I had a wonderful time and got to fly in Matt's Stinson too, great airplane. Even though I drove up it was awesome and I hope we can do something like that again!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hit Mountainmatt's private grass strip fly-in. Had an awesome time meeting new and old friends, camping out, and watching movies on the side of his hangar by a bonfire. Tell Katie (sp?) she makes some awesome pancakes. :D Thanks for letting me fly your stinson Matt. I owe you some time in my skywagon. You're an awesome host.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thanks bmurrish, tadpole, and hicountry for coming out. We had 8 planes total and I'd say atleast 30+ people show up (more than I had anticipated).

Planes included:
3 Skywagons
1 Supercub
1 Northstar
1 Piper Vegabond
1 Citabria High Country
1 Stinson 108

The friday night movie/campfire were great, but then the coyotes came out. Sat was a fun day of flying around and things were pretty well wrapped up by noon.

Flew into Caveman Ranch in Utah (formerly Tangri-La) by Moab last night. It was pretty sweet. I'll post a more in depth report and more pictures when I have time tomorrow.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Had a great flight up the Eldridge Glacier and over the spine to the Muldrow Glacier to show a colleague around the park. The lighting was amazing, though my iPhone doesn't really do it justice.
