Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Is Bernies strip the "Port Elsner" on the sectional? That White Salmon area is pretty country.

Yes it is. You had better get it right or your going to bend something.

Where did you fly today?

Had a blast with Rob and his buddy yesterday.
Bernie's strip is awesome, some good pre-Idaho practice.

Quite possibly two of the best bush planes ever built..........in this order

Re: Where did you fly today?

Just bounced around on a neighbors pasture for a bit (had to take a break from fixing fence). Had a little wind and a little rain, but not enough to spoil the party.

Then went over to Kelly airpark and flew a little with Nate.

Matt, that picture is beyond cool... I don't know what resolution it is in but if its high enough you totally should get that framed.

What kind of camera did you use?

I agree, it's a nice picture. Not sure if I can blow it up though. Taken with my 5 year old Canon A570 @ 5MP.

Went to Braeburn for a cinnamon bun then flew back via Lake Labarge ...ground effect at 2' off the deck gave me a good 10mph extra.. so around 150mph..nice!

I flew around Logan Utah in my friends 180hp Cherokee 140 to check out all of the flooding. I wish I had a better camera with me. Image

Re: Where did you fly today?

Now thems buns!
Recalculate weight and balance after breakfast?

PS. In the first shot of you in front of your plane at the Cinnamon Strip you are parked with the stick back and elevator up. Are you tying the stick back with the seat belt ?

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Did that Ottoer spend some time up here in AK?? It looks very familiar! I think it may have been the one that Mavrik Aire was flying for a few years before he went off the deep end.. If so, I have spend some time in that bird.

Dirtstrip...Yes, I did tie the elevators with the seatbelt as it is the only way I have right now, no control locks...now that subject would be a good tread as I'm curious and suspicious that it is not the best method... so if anyone reads this, I'd like to hear what you guys do to lock your controls. Having the elevators up facing wind is good I suspect but bad when it snows or rains... Lets hear it.

As for the Otter, I dont know but I'll ask Cam or Derick, the owners and will get back to you.

Cheers, BCT

Re: Where did you fly today?

Took off at 8:30pm with two buddies, beautiful sun, tried to make it to the Alaska Border near Skagway, AK but it was totally sucked in about 15 miles before border..so played in the mountains, returned to Carcross, Yukon for landing and chatt up with a "good" friend and stumbled onto one of the first ever built C-172...serial #20 ! Flew back to Whitehorse in a firy northern sky... 1.5 air time.

Annie Lake Road Valley...saw some nice sheep

Buzzing nice peaks

Bennet lake...at the end of this lake is Lindeman city where 1898 gold rush stampeders built their boat to join the journey onto the Yukon river bound to Dawson City...many would perish

Re: Where did you fly today?

I've been using a bungee cord hooked to the rudder pedals and around the stick. I too am searching for alternative--I was warned not to use the type of rudder restraint that encircles the rudder, as it will eventually dent the rudder, even if padded. I did buy some batten material which I planned to cover with something soft and make one, but decided against it, after said advice.
