Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Nice pics buzzlatka, I'll be moving out to California soon and I can't wait to start exporing the area.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I got lucky and went on a 5 day TDY to Portland to drop PJ's from the Oregon Air National Guard this week. I say I was lucky because it was pretty much a paid vacation for me to visit family and fly planes with my dad during my free time since I'm from Vancouver which is right across the river from PDX. The weather was pretty typical of the Northwest and it rained most days, but I still managed to get in over 8 hours of flying in 2 planes and shot over 70 landings at 10 airports.

Where did you fly today?

Today I was bored so I flew along the spine of the Alaska Range from home to Tok Junction. That didn't seem good enough so I topped off and flew 300nm across the Yukon River to Bettles, just short of the Brooks Range. After eating a sandwich and buying mogas at a price that would make Donald Trump's eyes water I flew south over the Ray Mountains and back over the Yukon to Nenana then home in time to have my ass handed to me by a very windy Windy Pass. Only good picture is one I snapped of the Dalton Highway and the Alaska Pipeline crossing on the Yukon. The other pics simply do not do the country justice.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Met up with an old high school buddy for a quick trip out to Hoquiam (KHQM) for lunch. Water was a bit high for Copalis and wasn't quite sure I had the right location. GPS put it between two water channels. Foggy memory I thought I read it was closer to the rocks that were under water. I'll check shortfield.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Copalis is north of the channel that flows out to the ocean, the first time I flew out there I made the mistake of landing on the south side

Flew over the Spiral Jetty on the Great Salt Lake the other day, then around Cascade Mountain trying out a new camera mount that attaches to the strut. Here is the video:

BTDT in Windy Pass a time or two!! :-& Was talking with Roger C. after one of those days last fall and he mentioned that over between Mt. Fellows and Wood River was his favorite sneak route on days like that. Of course, that doesn't help you arrive at home. I'd hate to be descending for INR pattern altitude in those conditions. :-& :-&

Ever flown over the Ray Mountains in late summer? You can see the pink of the fireweed a good 20 miles away. Sounds like a real nice day of flying, even considering fueling in BTT and the rodeo homecoming. =D>

There were two channels, that's what confused me. I'd heard to the North of the Channel but I didn't know which one. Wished I'd gotten a picture of it.

Come to think of it, he was quiet about what he's doing for a living lately...

I'm embarassed to say that was my first time over that part of the state. Should have done it much earlier, some cool places back there. This summer I want to get to Manley Hot Springs and then do some more flying north along the Yukon.

Next time just do a low pass and look for this brown sign off to the side of the beach then you will know you're there before you land.
