Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Day 7 of the Caveman SW US, long way home. The wind is suppose to get going pretty good so a breakfast flight is in order. Want to try Calipatria a friend says it is good. Half way there the wind makes it unpleasant. At $80.00 an hour in gas I decide to divert to Chiriao Summit.

Spent an hour cleaning the M7. The wx was nice when I got back. 75* 10MPH wind. Went back to the house and jumped into the hot tub.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Loaded up the family in the Bonanza to go to the Portland area for the afternoon for some warm weather. Made a stop at Aurora to pick up an RV-4 exhaust for a friend at Vans. GA is alive and well in the PDX area! We were #3 to land at Aurora with 4 behind us. Decided to head over to Hillsboro to catch the Max into town for dinner. Nice surprise to find Aluminum Overcast, the EAA's B-17 on the ramp at Hillsboro. We took the tour and the kids loved it! Had to dodge a few rain squals on the way home but had a nice trip.

I rose up into the air this morning. It was rapturous. My landing was pretty fine too.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Took a good skiing buddy who is a small plane n00b out on friday morning to show him Portland from the air. We made about an 70 mile loop around the Portland area looking at stuff, as he grew up here but had never seen it from the air other than commercial flights. We never got over 1800 ft and had a great time, even flew with the windows up in the Cub for a while, which is nice because he was farting something terrible. Beautiful day to be out.

Celebrated the end of the world by going on a Poker Run. Figured it would be a good way to fly off some of my Phase 1 testing hours before Armageddon struck. Flew a circuit from O27, O15, KTCY, 1O3, KCPU, then back to O27 to see if I won or not. Of course I did not. Fun day anyway. We had 22 planes in all from Rans Coyotes to Sonex's, to the requisite RV gaggle and a P210 and a C-180. Great breakfast and a great lunch.

Add "windows that open" to your MUST HAVE list for whatever you build. :-)

Today I determined that, yes, my road bike will fit in the back of the 172. This is good as I really didn't want to have to drive to Wenatchee in a couple of weeks.

Flew down to Mulino for a late lunch then hit Sportsman and Chehalem. Made a good decision not to land at Starks Twin Oaks as I barely made it back with enough visibility. Happiness is being in the hanger when the clouds open up.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I'm on a roll. I have got to fly 10 out of the last 11 days. Something like 30 hours. Friday flew from Troutdale Oregon to Madras Oregon. 1.5 HR Got the oil changed and looked for metal since the last analysis said iron and chrome were elevated. It looks good. Sent two more samples. 25 hr and 45 hr.

Was home long enough to do a couple errands. Then my boy and his friend wanted to go so we Went to Cascade Locks, Hood River and Sandy River. Landed the grass at all 3. Another hour.

Tonight took the wife to dinner in Lebanon, Oregon. They have mogas $4.55 so I filled up. Nice FBO and owner Larry was very accommodating. Took the crew car into town for dinner. The wx was interesting coming home.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I'm assuming the mogas at Lebanon is ethanol-free. Is e-zero gas widely available in Oregon at reguar gas stations? If not ( it isn't here n western washington), I wonder where they're getting it?

Well, I tried to fly :? Wife and I were gonna take in a movie in Juneau and do some shopping but the cloud gods all decided to have a convention at Berner's Bay so now I am sitting by the fire with my feet up watching old movies on TV 8) Better to be down here wishing I was up there than to be up there wishing I was down here. :D

Re: Where did you fly today?

You have to have a storage tank. We have been getting 92 octane "clear" fuel from the local distributors (Hay's oil and Colvin oil are our local's). You have to order it as a "clear" fuel....that is how they sell it without alcohol and it is only sold in 92 octane.

It is around, you got to look. I get mine delivered from Marc Nelson Pacific Pride. I got 500 gallons coming this week. Lebanon is clear.

With all the boating activity where you live, can you find a marina that sells it?

Re: Where did you fly today?

There's a marina on the Columbia near the I-5 bridge that had clear 87, if I recall. It was a couple or so years back I bought some when fuel prices were through the roof. I'd have preferred 92.

Larry's great. I'm glad he carries mogas. Too bad more places don't have it.
