Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew over the Tavaputs plateau in Eastern Utah today. Didn't land on any of the strips because we were in a friends 180 from Canada. He's working for an oil sands company, and brought his plane down and is based out of the Willow Springs strip for a week. That strip is ok, but he is going to see if he can get permission to grade it again, along with the PR Springs strip which are both on the property they have mining rights to. I hope he can get that done!

Here is the PR Springs airstrip - currently not usable due to rv ruts, mud and no maintenance for a while. I hope he can get it graded!
39°26.32 N 109°17.42 W - 8,272ft elevation

This is the airstrip at the Tavaputs Ranch. Pretty cool place. Private, get permission first.
39°30.031 N 110°10.921 W - 9,228 elevation, 1,921ft usable
Image

Does anyone know the deal with this strip? I don't know if it is usable or in use or not. Looks nice from the air, but I didn't do a low pass to check it out.
39°32'14.78"N 110°14'41.39"W - elevation 9,650ft. Looks like it's 2,700ft long.

Madras Oregon back to Troutdale Oregon. Fires are real bad today. No wind to blow the smoke away. My wife's family's business had a cruise in and I needed to be there. The weather was way nicer on the west side of the Cascades. That doesn't happen often.

Cheers...Rob

A quick trip to drop a few friends at Burning man. Man was it windy out there....and very dusty...

The end of the day always makes for some cool pics however.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Took out one of our members, HarryV this AM on the North circuit. Think we landed at 15 or so holes with a couple new ones added...

A new one called "Bumpy Barn" Has 2 landings. #1 and #2...#1 is on the North side of the barn and #2 is on the South side.
This is #1

This is #2...the preferred LZ

He is one from the area I call "Plateau Land". Sits around 8000' or so. Nice and smooth for the 29's with a great view....

Re: Where did you fly today?

182 was sold a while back to a gentlemen in Tennessee!! Those guys at Stancil Aviation in Placerville do a great job. I guess they sold 35 planes last month. Anyhow, down to one plane for me again.....I need a CUB, but the wallet just wont allow for it now...

Re: Where did you fly today?

I got to try out my new landing gear (installed the last couple of days by a master welder who has worked for some very big names in the back country aircraft biz, and is doing Rans S-7's re do's on the side, this gear is as strong/the same as the latest SC and similar designs, thus overbuilt for my lightweight bird, while not weighing any more then the stock spring rod gear it replaced, it also sits 3" higher) on some local gravel bars.ImageImage
