Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

We went out from Carey, ID with the intention to find a 29 yr. old Father with his 3 yr. old Daughter in the desert. They had been lost for almost 24 hours. I was utterly amazed I saw him waiving his hat at us. I dropped down to look at 6 elk in the middle of the lavas and spotted him on a lava cone. Dumb luck, and lucky guy. I felt bad for the child.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Late Friday afternoon and I get a 5:00 AM Saturday flight to Korea dumped in my lap. It was dark, cold and raining when we arrived at the plane, but as we headed north and broke out of the clouds, the sun was just rising and the air was perfect.

Image

The island felt cold at 60 degrees when we left this morning, but when we landed it was only 11 degrees with snow on the ground  Not used to those temps!

Image

The pictures just do not do the view justice!

Image

Flying back over the Japanese islands a volcano was smoking. You could see right down in it as we flew over, but I couldn't get the camera out in time.

Image

If you have to work on the weekend, this isn't too bad of a way to do it!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went up for a short flight with my sister. Mush swung by, so we ended up going down to KFLY to check out his hanger (nice pad!).

It was nice to beat the cold front and get some flying in. 4" of snow on the ground now.

Re: Where did you fly today?

After a 3 month hiatus I took a friend around the pattern with my flight instructor. We didn't go anywhere but he really enjoyed it, now planning a flight to Chicago in the coming months.

Re: Where did you fly today?

We had a fun day of flying. We went to Petaluma for lunch at the Two Niner Diner then flew up to Mysterious Valley making a landing at Angwin along the way. After Mysterious Valley I dropped Stacey off for her flying lesson in Davis then I went and visited c180bill at his 1000ft farm strip just a few miles away.

Mysterious Valley, this is a cool place I want to go check out again when I have more time

Dude,

This calls for it's own thread. Not only a good story but a shining example of the value of GA airplanes. More info please!

Life is good. Life is better with wings.

Re: Where did you fly today?

On Saturday I took a nice little jaunt from Henderson, NV KHND to Overton - Perkins U08. I brought my friend Jonny who isn't a pilot himself, but has a little bit of experience flying.

Leaving Henderson to the southeast over the mountains at around 7am was pretty bumpy with the 7kt headwinds mixed with the mountain thermals, though once past the mountains, the air was smooth as glass. We headed east over Boulder City KBVU and did a fly-over above the Hoover Dam. We then followed lake mead north, east, and northbound again at around 5500' to avoid the heavy tour traffic in the area.

Nearly 15 nm out from U08 I received a traffic alert and sure enough, a twin was headed in nearly the opposite direction at our altitude nearly exactly [-X . Had I not taken action I think we would have been fine, but it would have been extremely close.

After that, it was a quick few minutes up the river north, and then descending as we headed northwest, to approach the airfield approx 2000 ft agl for a flyover, before a quick landing.

We landed without issue, set right down on the numbers, taxied back, took off again, and spent a little time flying over the town of Overton and the butte that's directly above it, before turning around, and heading back at 6500'. We requested the Class bravo transition through KLAS but they were too busy, so we flew around, and came back in to KHND from the SE over the ridge.

All in all a beautiful flight. We would have taken pictures but were enjoying the flight too much.
