DC to Wyoming

Picked up my PA-12 in DC on Saturday. Flew it to Ohio on Sunday and had the privilege of staying with Patrol Guy. Flew with him to Urbana yesterday to see the B-17 restoration (thanks again Rick!), and then on to STL.

Staying in STL today due to KC weather, then heading home to Wyoming tomorrow.

Here is a link to some pics of the trip so far. Wore my BCP t-shirt two days in a row with the intention of getting a picture, and then never remembered. #-o

Another video of some Pecos River flying a couple weeks ago. I had installed a new filter from Nflight that fits the Contour Camera, and gave it a litttle test. Seemed to do a good job of eliminating the prop artifacts.

You got good taste in music mister. That's two. You know why Texas looks all weathered and rough like that?

Not the offocial version :D , what would it be?

Tried to fly to Spokane but Felts went IFR. Made it to Davenport and flew home via Grand Coulee.

It's because they leave it outside all the time. I know, I know. It takes a very special kind of mind (read twisted) to find the humor there. But it works for me. I was flying along over a portion of Northern Nevada years ago with a non pilot buddy of mine when, after long deliberation and considerable observation he offered that bit of wisdom up. He's dead now though, by way of no particular fault of his own. If there's any significance to that part of the story I've not got a clue what it might be. Keep those vid's coming. I still dial up the Rio Grand with Stephen Stills when I'm feelin' down.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Had a chance to get back home last weekend and get the 182 out for a bit. Great weather and great time. This was the first time I was able to do an off pavement landing with the new tires and airglass nose fork. :D

Re: Where did you fly today?

My brother and I flew down the the Hidden Splendor airstrip on Saturday. It was cloudy and cool in the morning, but the clouds broke free later in the morning. We hiked down the river about a mile to the old miners cabin at the Hidden Splendor Uranium mine. Then we flew to Mexican Mountain and met another pilot who just happened to be there in his Maule. He's a retired pilot and has a cabin in Alaska near Cordova I think. Then we flew to Cedar Mountain, then on to Huntington for the cheapest av gas around here, $4.85, then back to Spanish Fork. Not a bad day!

On our way to Hidden Splendor:

I think the mine might still have some uranium in it:

Landed at Atomic City a couple times...think they used the largest sized gravel they could find. Put a couple good sized dings in the horizontal. Hope I never have to land there again.

Here are some pics I took during my trip last week bringing my PA-12 home from DC to Wyoming. (These are the same links I posted over on SC.org, but I thought I would share them with my BCP brethren and sisteren too.)

Thanks again to Patrol Guy and the Ohio Bush Planes bunch for helping to make it an incredibly fun trip for me.

Now that I have my bird home, I already have lots of big plans for Caveman, JC, etc., etc.

Excellent Superman pose. Zane, you need to add a BCP Cape to the offering next time.

Have flown over Atomc City several times to and from JC. I noticed the two color gravel runway there..heard the rocks were kind'a bad. Which color is the best, in case I may have to land there some day?

The dark colored rock in the fore ground is lava rock and the lighter colored is regular gravel. Both sections are very useable and last weekend was in better condition than I have seen in awhile. I chose to land both times in the lighter colored gravel and did just fine. However, like mentioned earlier the gravel is a little larger than perfered but still very useable. Have fun :D

Home sweet home. The plane looks a lot happier here than it did in Washington DC 10 days ago!:

Just a local flight doing some aerial photos for a construction site I'll be doing some crane work at next week. Then a dozen or so hillside landings once the work was done :P Image
