Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Oh no! What a bummer.
I'm only seeing the bottom half of the photo, but looks like a Stinson?
What happened?

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

Re: Where did you fly today?

I don't really know for sure what caused it but it sure did a lot of damage for a very slow speed. We had landed and were rolling out when something went south on us.

Left main gear ended up under the plane, left wing tip crumpled, left wheel assembly torn off, prop strike in pavement with one blade.

We don't know if i got hit with a squirrely tail wind of if something failed.

First time I have ever done any serious damage to a plane and my Stinson was my baby for a long time.

Re: Where did you fly today?

That really, Really, REALLY sucks shorton. I'm flat-out sorry to see it. I hope you're (very) well insured and ready to explore different things for a few months.

I'll be interested to hear what your take is on the event...what actually happened and why.

If there's a nice thing about not flying it's that the fuel bills go WAY down... Poor consolation, but all I have to offer.

Good Luck!

Shane,
Pay attention to that queasy feeling that you get when its 3/4 mile and 500' here in Juneau. I appreciate that you know when to sit tight and wait it out. I used to have friends that didn't know when to sit tight. Coldjoe

Sorry to hear about Charlie. Like Hammer said (or something), if she's a loss then you'll soon get the excitement of searching for a new ride. I hope you come out okay on the deal.

As for the mystery of why it happened...that's a much harder itch to scratch.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Mobridge, SD to Montevideo, MN, to Faribaugh, MN, to Waseca, MN.

Weekend before Airventure and there's no gas at Faribaugh.....so I hopped to Waseca for gas......pumps are out of commission.

Shoulda stayed in Montevideo.....great airport, two courtesy cars, big couches, wi-fi, beautiful grass strip. Trying to get another 150 miles under my wheels before tomorrow.

Re: Where did you fly today?

This was a pretty big day for me. I haven't flown since I broke my legs/ankles last January. This was also the first flight in my new plane, a 1947 Funk. It's not exactly a capable backcountry airplane, but I've got some lightweight mods started and some smoothie 8.50s on order.

First helped button up the Javron Cub after it was put on Wip amphibs. Then off to catch the tail end of the Church picnic up on Whitefish:

somebody had a nice Vette there

Unloading the latest project. 53 MG, last driven in 71 and stored in a barn thereafter.

Then go air dry the Cub after yet another thunderstorm.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Mears Field in Concrete, WA isn't a backcountry destination, but the flight through some of the northern Cascades getting there is still pretty sweet. The North Cascades Vintage Aircraft museum hosted a Fly-In there last weekend and I managed to make it. I took the long route up the Stillaguamish and Sauk River Valleys and admired the scenery along the way.

my route is shown by the black line coming in from the SW

hotrod180 was there and I saw M7Driver that I met at the High Sierra last fall. There are worse ways to spend a day!

Love your pics BRD!
Flew the little plane up to Mt. Lassen this morning then back down Mill Creek to Red Bluff for fuel. I was happy to find the airport cafe is re-opened. Just had a great $5.99 breakfast. Gonna go play along the river now.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Burnett Bay
30 miles north of Port Hardy. Big beach, hard sand, landed at the north end to check out the kayaker's cabin. Kayaker resting on his way up to Bella Coola ran out to greet me. Works at Boeing in Seattle, his dad used to take him flying, but nothing this exciting. The rest stop for this leg of the race was another sandbar on a lake about 80 miles south, but that's another story.
