Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went over and checked out Limon, CO today to see if it would be any good for night sky pictures. Beautiful weather around Denver, but an overcast layer was hanging out over the airport. A little on the windy side, but right down the runway. Betsy doesn't much like taxiing in the wind, but we made it to the pilot shack without needing to spin around the other way.

Practically leaped off the ground on the way out, especially since this is the lowest DA the airplane has likely seen in 6+ months. Climbed up above the clouds through a nice hole and enjoyed some VFR on top until the layer gave way to clear skies again. Neat how the layer to the south over COS area today had this "rolling waves" look to it, not unlike the mountains it had just come from. Pity it was 200OVC there!

Re: Where did you fly today?

That snow on that lake was rock hard. My son asked why we didn't just land on the tires and saved all that funky noise the skis made........I feel safer cause maybe there could be a soft spot. I only mention this cause my kid is close to his private check ride and we got into a big discussion on landing in snow with wheels. I and everybody else has opinions on the subject that would no doubt hijack this cool picture thread. LOL
Unfortunately when we returned to PAMR we watched a PA-14 with what looked like 26” or 8.50 tires landing on ski strip (some do use wheels on the ski strip all winter) it didn’t end well...touched down fine then saw the tail going over as it went outta sight behind some snow berms. Deep snow? or hard braking? I don’t know what happened, I use the pavement. Anyways....

I admit I wasn’t a big fan of the paint job at first. But now I smile every time I see that Raven on the side. Thanks for the compliments.

Shoveled snow and went for a nice hour cruise with the monster. Weather was not good around her for quite a while. Last few days have been really nice.
