Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Had a pretty great day today. Sold a bike so had to fly it down to an airport 30 min away to get picked up, then cruised another half hr into Grande Prairie. Landed there and got picked up with an R66 and into the mountains we went. Found a grassy knoll to have a campfire and roast some smokies, headed out to see how frozen Kakwa falls still was, then went in and Landed on a Glacier on Mt Alexander. Found an ice cave to go explore while out there. Capped it off with about .3 stick time flying the 66 back to GP. Then finish the day off with a half hr flight back home in the 206. Feeling pretty blessed today!ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Great pictures David!

Careful though, playing with helicopters will cost you money! Every time I get around them, I think a guy should have one.

Thanks. And ya, I wanted to buy one and then had a good friend passed away in a crash earlier this year. This made me really want one again. Just a lot of fun touring around the hills.

How do y’all like the Colorado? Truck shopping for my wife and strongly considering the Duramax.

Re: Where did you fly today?

This is a V6 ZR2. We traded in a Gen3 Tacoma TRD Off Road on it. The Taco seating position was always a bit "butt on the floor" and the ride was pretty rough. The ZR2 has been the polar opposite. The "Multimatic" shocks smooth the ride out like a full size SLT Sierra and the seating position is much much improved. Transmission shift points are also light years better than the Toyota.

I was thinking of going with a Grand Cherokee (V8) but Debbie still wanted a small P/U. The inside is in some ways kinda' plasticy but in others fit and finish is nice and adding an aftermarket sunroof (Colorado's don't have the option) was pretty inexpensive (results look stock).

We put Go Rhino D6 boards on it, otherwise there would be mud on the back of legs from the standard rock rails. It has a factory 2 inch lift from stock Colorado so she wanted the extra help to hop in and out.

Overall I like it much better than the Taco. Don't have experience with the Duramax option so can't give you any feedback except I'll bet the mpg is better than the gas V6 (my Sierra with a 6.2L gets better mileage than the ZR2.)

Re: Where did you fly today?

Appreciate the info. My wife recently went from a Jeep Wrangler to a Lexus GX, but really wants a truck for hauling the dogs and an auxiliary tank to put fuel in the plane.

I tend to hold onto vehicles until they die (Wrangler was totaled). I have just shy of 400,000 miles on my 2007 Duramax; hoping the mini Duramax proves to be just as reliable.

We originally thought about a Tacoma, but I’d really like something with some torque for towing.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Spent a few days on the coast beach combing outside of Dillingham. I always get giddy when Lake Clark Pass is wide open and smooth…..today was kinda rough on the west entrance at lake but not bad. First pic is coming back to PAMR west side of narrows. Next is east side of narrows heading west.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I've seen lots of fabulous pictures others on this forum have taken of their planes with a backdrop of stars and I wanted a picture like that of my plane. So I flew all the way to the Alvord Desert to get the perfect plane/stars shot and failed miserably. The weather gods just didn't like my idea. I did check the weather before I left, but it got much worse than predicted. Sigh.

Flew to Fish Lake last weekend with a buddy and my dog. Met a 70 year old guy out there with a 7GCBC with scout gear who had been out there for 2 weeks ( he sat through a 4 inch snow storm!). Bugs were crazy, fishing was pretty dang good. Great time in the mountains.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Didn't get any pictures, but there is a FB live stream of the STOL competition we had up at Peace River Alberta today. Jason Busat schooled us all in his S6 Coyote, which we figured would happen. I took the second shortest takeoff at 172' with my C206. Overall I finished 4th with 447' total, and won the heavy touring by 108'. Need to get my landings sub 200' as well, but im pretty happy with my first official STOL results. Surprised a lot of people with how well a C206 can perform. Pretty fun event and hoping to grow it next year. Hope it's ok to brag a little bit, don't be too hard on me.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Good job. Canada is ahead of us in % vaccinated now. While fully vaccinated, I am in a Delta variant surge hot spot now.
