This is a V6 ZR2. We traded in a Gen3 Tacoma TRD Off Road on it. The Taco seating position was always a bit "butt on the floor" and the ride was pretty rough. The ZR2 has been the polar opposite. The "Multimatic" shocks smooth the ride out like a full size SLT Sierra and the seating position is much much improved. Transmission shift points are also light years better than the Toyota.
I was thinking of going with a Grand Cherokee (V8) but Debbie still wanted a small P/U. The inside is in some ways kinda' plasticy but in others fit and finish is nice and adding an aftermarket sunroof (Colorado's don't have the option) was pretty inexpensive (results look stock).

We put Go Rhino D6 boards on it, otherwise there would be mud on the back of legs from the standard rock rails. It has a factory 2 inch lift from stock Colorado so she wanted the extra help to hop in and out.

Overall I like it much better than the Taco. Don't have experience with the Duramax option so can't give you any feedback except I'll bet the mpg is better than the gas V6 (my Sierra with a 6.2L gets better mileage than the ZR2.)
